Have someone seen an old musket with cutted down stock so to trasform it in a sporting carbine??
Is storically correct to modified in that way a low cost replica to get something strange to have fun??
Here in Italy isn't difficoult to find a used low cost two band musket, or get fron the factory a not perfect stock to modified!
ciao

I imagine a lot of that was done when the guns were still in use. Most of the old muskets I've seen are too worn to mess with and are preserved as is for antiques. I would think the sporterized ones had disintegrated by now.

An acquaintance of mine has an original musket which has a very short barrel which was cut down, apparently for cavalry use. I can't recall all the details about it but the barrel wasn't over 16 or 18 inches long. Whether it was modified by an armory or an individual I couldn't say. It looked like an Austrian Lorenz to me.

Do you mean something like these? If so, they are very commonly found for sale.....just CW-era muskets sold as surplus by a number of vendors in the late 19th century & 'sporterized' by cutting the wood back, some were even bored out to smooth-bores to make shotguns.

A musket with a cut-down barrell was often called a "blanket gun". It was more of a sidearm, being intended for close range self-defense work. Loaded with a buck-and-ball, it is essentially a shotgun. Trade off power for "handy".

I have seen a few for sale over the years.
