This one is going to be promoted by the Israeli Movement for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms:

We, the citizens of Israel signed below, ask the Knesset to amend Firearms Act 1949 in order to:

a)Allow any adult, sane citizen (except those who have criminal pasts), to purchase firearms,
b)To replace the current firearms licensing system with an ICS similar to the one in operation in the United States of America,
c)To prohibit concealed carrying of firearms or carrying of firearms in areas where submitting to a search is obligatory upon entrance, unless licensed as describe below,
d)Allow carrying of weapons as described in section C to those who are legally able to purchase firearms, if they are licensed to do so after passing a suitable training course

Armed citizens have stopped several would-be bombers.

You would think that Israel would be the one place there the "Rifle behind every blade of Grass" plan would be in effect. Like the Swiss.

I'm not sure of what their current situation is, but I'm under the impression that carry permits are extremely common.

I read an article a few years back about how it was responsible for the switch in terror tactic from mass public shooting (ie: a guy in a mall with a full auto AK) to the current travesty of homicide bombings.

Another interesting point:

To replace the current firearms licensing system with an ICS similar to the one in operation in the United States of America,

Uh....which system are ya'll talking about?

FFL? Purchase? Carry? NFA firearms? FIDS and FOIDS? Which State's model? Shall Issue? No Issue? May Issue if you're a Movie Star?

We've got 20,000 firearms laws, and some of them are pretty restrictive, so be wicked careful what you wish for guys, and do some homework....

Yeah, like 4% of the population have permits.
Less Israelis as a percentages in Israel have guns in 2003, than Jews in Germany in 1938 (5%):banghead:

ICS - Instant Check System

Unfortunately though, sportshooters and firearm owners are probably Israel's biggest gun control lobby - "guns for me, but not for thee".:banghead:
