have a special need for sling on my rem 1100 20ga. want it to be cross chest carry, but do not know diffenrence between 1-2-3 point slings,or how to mount on gun.
the sling will be removed when in house, only needed for outside work. 1100 is standard wood stock with 24" barrel, which could be changed to a 20" if needed.
thank you for your time------emmie

Try a two-point sling setup to start with, Uncle Mike's makes a replacement magazine cap with a detachable sling swivel stud installed for the front swivel IIRC. If you have a magazine extension or plan to install one, the screw in the barrel clamp (a must-have IMO) often consists of a stud for a detachable swivel.
Set the rear swivel into the left side of the stock (if you're right handed) at a point halfway between toe and heel 2-3" inboard of the edge of the stock where the recoil pad/buttplate is installed. Make sure you clear the bolt return spring tube in the buttstock though. And if the stock wood is too thin there for the full length of the screw, install a hardwood dowel filler in the buttstock hole for the rear sling swivel screw to thread into. Or set the swivel a little higher in the side of the stock to clear the hole for the bolt return sring tube.
If you want to use the more conventional placement of the rear sling swivel stud in the bottom of the stock 3" from the toe, that can work also. The 'curve' of the underside of the gun may be more comfortable for you than the 'flat' of the left side. Either way I'd not set the rear sling swivel stud into the underside of the pistol grip, as has been popular in some circles. It shortens up the arc of the sling too much I think, and puts too much stock behind the rear swivel.
A long enough sling (about 6- 6.5' of webbing works, leaving room for adjustment) to go over your head and support side shoulder fitted to standard two-point swivels can work for what it sounds as if you want. That allows the gun to be slung muzzle down diagonally in front of you with the muzzle clearing your support side foot. Enough slack in the sling lets the butt hang in front of your shooting side shoulder and lets you slide your support side arm up clear of the sling as you shoulder the gun.
I have made a few of these slings out of 1 1/4" GI 'silent sling' webbing as described in the past but have killed my sewing machine doing it. Till I get the money for a full blown industrial sewing machine I'm kinda stuck 8^). I gave my spare sling to one of my fellow students in Louis Awerbuck's shotgun class last summer, she was very happy with it. She also had a 20 ga. 1100, hers had a 20" or 21" rifle sight barrel and no magazine extension.
And if you do want a 3-point sling, there are any number of designs available. I'd suggest Kyle Lamb's version ( http://www.vikingtactics.com/prod_sling_VTAC-MK1-a.html ). Or Larry Vickers' design from BlueForceGear at http://www.blueforcegear.com/product.cfm?type=cat&cat_id=5&prod_id=79 . Both those fellows have a pretty good idea what they're doing, I'd say 8^).
And you can always go the singlepoint route too, if you prefer. That lets the gun flop around a lot more than a 2- or 3-point arrangement IMHO, but some folks still like them. Usually it's less pleasant to have your nether regions assaulted by a flapping shotgun than by a shorter, lighter carbine though.
