I don't believe the Savage 99 was designed to be completely stripped by someone who is not a gunsmith. But if you remove the Butt stock most parts are visable and can be cleaned with some of the spray cleaners, then use a spray lube. GOTO http://stevespages.com/page7a.htm for a parts schematic. And if you have the gunsmithing skills get a " Firearms assembly and disassembly book VOL IV for centerfire rifles by J.B.WOOD" or do a search of " DISASSEMBLY OF SAVAGE 99" there is a site that sells disassembly booklets for all types of guns. I have done a seach and can't find free disassembly information. If you find any post it here.

Savage 99's are evil horrible rifles that will cripple your mind, Don't even bother to try to work on it or its complicated simplicity will overtake your brain.

now repeat after me, this is a evil rifle, I must get rid of it immediately.....
I must give it to someone who is already diseased with the curse, only they can live with it..........

The 99 is a simple but very stout action. Carefully remove the butt plate screws, and even more carefully remove the stock bolt and then carefully pull off the buttstock. (i say even more careful with the stock bolt as they tend to be put in very tight, and if you twist hard but happen to have the screwdriver between the screw head and the wood, and not in the slot, it is easy to split the stock.

Once the action is exposed, every thing you need to clean and lube should be right there.
