How about an answer of "no, but they get to use the real ones" :D. That would shake them up.

I think the poll answers got cut off in that short box. I think it really reads:

Yes-I'm a bad parent

No-I'm a good parent

According to Cheng, some studies have linked toy gun play with aggressive behavior, and some child health professionals counsel families to limit this type of activity. Critics say children playing with toy guns may confuse them with real guns.

"There needs to be more study on the impact of toy gun play on child behavior. Understanding what parents think about issues like toy gun play and what their parenting practices are may be a first step in designing effective community-based prevention programs," Cheng said.

I played with toy guns, I turned out fine.
I still play with toy guns, neices, nephews.
IIRC aren't these psople anti's? Asking during Dr. visits if guns in the home?
Gee my parents taught me the 4 rules, and how to tell the difference, between real and toy and the behaviors and responsiblities. What a concept !!!
Council to limit behavior--or--brainwash sheeple...same defintion, put another way.

You can hit "answer" every two seconds and watch the results pile up. I was answer 1336 through 1339. I test these things to see if they can be loaded by either side. Most say "You have voted in this poll already" but there are those, like this one, that have no control whatsoever.

Seems either the poll has been closed or controls added. I figured with this T1 I could have me a field day but nope, no such luck. Ah well...

Just tried it again and the fix is in. It did let me vote again but only once.

Ya think they're monitoring this site like the MS boards does?

Numbers and % with the time stamp just to keep them honest in case they decide to cook the books a bit like that tv station did in VA (WV?) a few months ago.

You know, I'm kind of torn on the whole toy gun thing. I played with them a lot when I was growing up and I turned out ok (I think). I never gave toy guns much thought until I was reading Elmer Keith's (big time gun guy, writer, rancher, and hunting guy. Definately not an anti) autobiography Hell, I was there. In it, he mentions not letting his kids play with toy guns and not tolerating kids with toy guns around him. His reasoning was playing with toy guns taught disrespect for real guns. It's something to consider...

Wonder if he let his kids play with toy cars, or toy airplanes, or toy tools like hammers and saws?

I wonder.

I remember racing slot cars so fast they'd fly right off the track and crash into the wall. Over and over again. Used to derail my toy trains, too.

Play and fantasy are not reality. Children need to be taught this.

Keith was born in 1899. His kids were born in the 1930s. I don't remember any references to any toys. Being poor ranchers and farmers, I don't think they had money or time for fancy toy tools or cars/boats/airplanes. Read the book, the man was from a different time.

Chris

Edited to add: I was wrong about the source, he made the statements in his book Sixguns .

We are against the use of cap pistols. Youngsters should be taught early that guns are dangerous and only to be pointed at things you want to kill, never at friends and playmates. I never allowed a cap pistol on the premises and never allowed my youngsters to play with them or to point any arm at a human being. Kids are best trained from infancy in safe gun handling. When they are allowed to play cops and robbers and snap cap pistols at each other, they lose respect for a gun. Sooner or later they get their hands on the real thing and an accident may occur. Every time I see some youngster pointing a cap gun at a playmate or friend and popping off a cap, I feel like turning him over my knee and giving him the works. If everyone in this country would raise their children with due respect for firearms, there would be few accidents. Youngsters would grow into adults having due respect for safety and the proper handling of firearms. When a child is old enough to shoot, he should be taught how to use a real gun safely. Until he is old enough to be taught shooting, all guns should be kept out of his reach. As soon as children are old enough, we believe they should be taught to handle firearms and to hold them in respect. The cap pistol has no place whatever in this program.

Keith's entire family were shooters. His wife was quite a hunter and rifleman (riflewoman? rifleperson?)
