We've covered National Forests (ok to carry) and the GW parkway (not ok to carry). I wanted to ask about the Subway up here in Northern Virginia.

Obviously, if the subway was going into DC, then carry would be illegal.

But I was wondering about carry while in Virginia? Or peacable journey through Virginia? Does this count for Metro Buses also?

My intuition tells me that carry probably not OK on the subway, because that may or may not be Federal property. But buses run on regular streets. Virginia streets (except for the GW pkwy).

I'm also very curious about peacable journey stuff, sometimes I have to ride the metro after work and would rather disarm and case my firearm than leave it in the car at the parking garage.

check out www.packing.org - if you look at the talk for Virginia or News for Virginia, I forget which, a poster there got Metro to state that there was no law preventing such lawful activity. Personally, I probably wouldn't open carry, but that's a preference... Obviously, you need to be mindful of your territorial boundaries as we're surrounded by DC & MD where rapists & murderers go off with wrist slaps, but you can bet carrying a gun & getting caught there will land you under the jail for a long tiime...

GW parkway (not ok to carry).

What do you base this comment on?

I can't cite chapter and verse, but the GW Parkway was built on National Park Service land and is maintained by the federal government.

GW is Federal property patrolled by federal pigs(They're not cops, police, or peace officers) of the park police who have serious childhood issues that they work out every time they pull you over. Don't go there.

Can't help it, I drive on it to work every morning.

When I got pulled over for speeding on the GW Parkway a few years ago, you'd have thought I was Osama Bin-Laden himself, by the time they finally wrote the ticket there were three patrol cars and two motorcycle all parked behind and in front of me with the blue strobes going. Very strange policing.

If the prohibition is based on Title 18 sec. 930 then it's probably legal to carry on the parkway, unless there is a Federal statute that specifically prohibits firearms on National Park Service land.

See above, I can't make this stuff up. I like Deputies, Peace officers and such, but sometimes you gotta call em like you see 'em. They wanna be big city but know deep down they are park rangers. Sounds like a Petty Tyrant powertrip cocktail.

Nice High Road post there, Navy Joe.

You're a credit Oleg's website.

I'll have to remember to tell my friend, the "federal pig" about your theories on the US Park Police.

Hey Mr. James, what do you think?

David a federal pig?

Mike, I didn't attack you, don't attack me. That is not a shining example of law enforcement up there by any stretch. It's a pretty drive, but I avoid it, I'd rather talk to MD and VA troopers if I'm speeding. I can say what I think without being called a disgrace thank you.

If your friend is anupstanding citzen, my apologies for his choice of organization.

As far as Metro, I'd feel uneasy carrying on there mainly because I feel uneasy riding on there and don't do it often. My personal uses would all be in to Maryland or DC, so it wouldn't be legal anyhoo.

Kindly tell me where I attacked you, Navy Joe.

Did I call YOU a "Federal Pig"?

After all, it appears that you were a Federal employee with a screen name such as Navy Joe.

I only said that your categorization of all US Park Police officers as pigs is not very indicative of a High Road attitude, and it's a detriment to Oleg's website.

It's also puerile, childish, and flat out wrong.

I also didn't call you a disgrace. But, your apparent "they all suck" attitude is disgraceful.

Tell me, how many US Park Police officers have you had any substantitive contact with?

I'm at about 50.

One of my best friends is a US Park Police officer.

I've done ride alongs with USPP officers (not just my friend).

I've been to parties with USPP officers.

I've eaten dinner with USPP officers.

I've swilled beer with USPP officers.

And I've been stopped several times by USPP officers.

At no time have I been treated with anything other than courtesy and respect, and at no time have I ever seen a USPP officer treat a member of the community at large with anything other than the courtesy and respect that individual deserved.

I can't imagine who you ran into to give you such a biased view of an entire 900 member police force.

Your comment about them being Park Ranges also shows a depressing lack of knowledge about the Park Police, it's mission, its responsibilities, and its training.

To address the original question.

I e-mailed this question to Metro a year or two ago, and never received a response from them.

We have a large number of LEO's on this board (including me), many of whom work for Federal agencies (including me). To refer to such officers as "pigs" is an unwarrantable departure from the High Road we try to take here, and smacks of 60's rhetoric. Please, folks, keep it polite and respectful - except when dealing with total maniacs, of course, in which case the moderators will join you in calling them (reasonably polite) names! :D

Closing this one down as a result of complaints generated.
