do you think anything was hurt?

while shooting blue rock, a friend dry fired my springfield \ stevens double bbl 12 ga. a couple times before i asked him not to do that for fear of firing pin damage. i try to avoid doing this as much as possible. both bbls fired at least 30 rounds after this with no problems so i'm hoping for the best. what are your thoughts on occasionally dry firing modern double barrel shotguns? is it likely anything was damaged internally ? thanks for your opinions.

centerfire firearms can all withstand some dry firing
as long as it was just a few times, i doubt any damage was done at all

I dont recommend it either but Ruger says it is Ok with my Red Label. I still don't do it though:uhoh:

No harm, not recommended for lots of repetitions.
Urban myth decades ago had 870 firing pins busting when dry fired in very cold weather. Ran across this myself in a friend's WM. Not dry firing prevents this very rare event.

It depends on the gun. I've dry fired my 870 hundreds of times without concern because replacement firing pins are inexpensive and changing them isn't difficult (I have never broken one). However, I will never again dry fire an older double without snap caps. By doing so I learned the delights (expense) of having a gunsmith make new firing pins for a double that is no longer in production.
Snap caps are cheap. Why run the risk?
