I am interested in comp shooting and wanted to know if and when the shoots are near Ft Worth. I know very little about it..ie ...different classes of comp.
I would like to attend some different ones to see what is what.

I'm new to the post, so excuse my ignorance...are you asking about competitive shooting events or is there a competition called "comp"?
I'm over here in Graham, so I'm familiar with some competitive events around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
The Dallas Pistol Club (in Carrollton, actually) holds 2700 Bullseye pistol matches the first Sunday of every month, except in July, because of Camp Perry. There are also 2700's in Wichita Falls. Their first one this year is on April 21. They also shoot Bullseye up in Davis, OK, which is not too bad a drive from the Dallas area. And the Terrell club holds 1800 Bullseye events as well.
They shoot Highpower Rifle in Mineral Wells.
Hope that helps.

If you don't know what you like, list all your firearms and I'm sure you'll get replies with every form of competition you could use them in.

I'd say you can go
"stand and get accuracy" vs "move around and try for combat accuracy".
I know nothing about the first, the second (action shooting) is what a pistol is for (IMHO!)
2 major sports. IDPA vs USPSA. There are video all over the internet to give you and idea of what each is like. Your pistol will fit very well into both sports.
IDPA is a bit slower, uses a philosophy of immitading real world scenarios as far as the rules have permitted. i.e. shooting around cars and retrieving a gun from a desk drawer. Stages have less ammo involved. Stages are more scripted. "go here, shoot these 3 targets in this order, then go there, shoot these 2 targets in this order, etc. You'd be more likely to hear folks (rightly and wrongfully) talk about tactics with each other when not shooting. Trophies by skill at big matches, prizes in a random draw.
USPSA is faster, and has a philosophy of "if we don't slow you down with rules, how fast can you go!". Stages are more ammo intensive. They are not scripted. Figuring out the fastest way to shoot it (within the rules) is very much part of the game. You'd be more likely to hear folks talk about speed techniques when not shooting. Trophies/prizes by skill at major matches.
They are both very fun.

+1 to what akanotken said.
I suggest just finding a local match and showing up ready to play. I have yet to see an IPSC or IDPA group that was NOT totally inviting to new shooters and very supportive, relaxed with no pressure. Go play. You'll have fun.
You can go to watch but 5 minutes into it you'll be wishing you'd signed up, trust me :)
