There was a thread somewhere about a guy asking about keeping his guns in a safe in his basement. I can't find it, but he was asking what he should use to wipe his guns down.

What are the products used to wipe guns down for storage? A silicone cloth?

thanx.

Silicone cloth would be minimal in my eyes. I usually take a small bit of gun oil on a clean rag and wipe the exposed metal down until it has a very think coat. I'm in my safe roughly once every two weeks so it's not really long term storage

Breakfree - the CLP folks make a bottle of goo just for storage purposes.

Yeah, yeah yeah...call me obsessive...it's okay. This helps to explain why even my oldest firearms still look new. :)

Example of when I stored my Weatherby Mark V on Nov. 30, 2006.

1. Applied my CVS Latex exam gloves  No fingerprint salt.
2. Brake down rifle completely.
3. Clean entire rifle with M-Pro 7.
4. Assure complete moisture removal after cleaning with Gun Scrubber spray.
5. Apply Rig Grease to all internal parts of rifle, chamber, bore, lugs, firing pin, springs, etc.
6. Reassemble bolt, coat in Rig Grease and re-insert bolt into barreled action.
7. Apply Rig Grease to all external parts of rifle.
8. Secure barreled action back into stock.
9. Reapply Rig Grease to entire exterior.
10. Insert rifle into Silicone sock, store until next use.
11. Remove and throw-away my latex gloves.

Edit to clarify: I am this cautious only with my carbon steel firearms. My stainless steel firearms to not get this degree of attention.

I think LPS or Tri-Flow would work for me. Inspect on a regular basis. Essex

I wipe down the guns with Corrision X.

I clean, then use a light coating of Shooter's Choice red grease with the excess wiped off with a dry cloth.

How do you prep your guns for storage?

I have a long talk with them about my reasons and make sure that they understand that we'll be together again as soon as possible.
