Black Hills Remanufactured vs New Ammo

I just ordered 2 boxes (100rds) of Black Hills remanufactured 68gr Heavy Match HP from Georgia Precision. The cost for a remanufactured ammo shipped to my door was $18.59 per box. If I wanted the new casings it would have run $26.51 per box.

Needless to say there is a pretty good savings realized by purchasing the remanufactured ammo.

According to the Black Hills website concerning remanufactured .223 ammo they say...We produce this ammunition on the same production line as our newly manufactured ammunition and subject it to the same rigorous testing and hand inspection of each round. The savings result from our use of previously fired casings, which we reprocess to like new appearance and factory specifications. The .223 ammunition is produced using only once-fired military brass, so you are assured of uniformity and quality.

So...it's only been fired once and is loaded the same as new factory ammo. You save a good bit of money as well. For the average shooter, or even the competition hi power shooter, are there any real disadvantages to using quality reloaded ammo?

Ohh..and is there anyone out there with some BH .223 Remanufactured ammo that could tell us what headstamp. Lake City perhaps?

yeah, the re-man ammo is lc headstamped.

when i buy ammo, which isn't often anymore, i buy the new manufacture, mostly because 1- i like their new brass, and 2- i don't care for military brass.

as far as using quality re-loads vs new manufacture, you'll just have to shoot 'em both and see. it has been my experience that the new stuff is more accurate than the re-man stuff, but that is subject to change depending on rifle.

but, for top loads in both accuracy and velocity (at the same time), you'll just have to load your own.

I've never shot any of their new stuff. Their reman .223 52gr MHP shoots under 1/2 moa in my Thompson Encore...

I can't imagine that the new stuff shoots any better than that.

I hope it performs as well as expected!

I've got a standing bet with a fellow C.O. that I can put 5 shots in a quarter at 100 yards with an AR. I figure that to be about a 1" group. He's never seen it done with any of our issue ARs (Colt A2 Sporters) so he is very skeptical that any AR can do it, but then mine is definitely not an issue rifle!:D

If your AR is scoped, that shouldn't be a huge problem. Iron sights into a quarter? Not very likely unless you're very talented and have great eyes.

The Remanufactured 68gr Heavy Ball will do 1/2" groups from my Savage 12FV @ 100 yards easily. The new stuff is slightly better, but I mean slightly.

Some competition beginners use BH but they quickly find out how cheap it is to reload so they switch.

Redleg, email me...I have a better deal.

Yep, definitely scoped! That's why I was saying my rifle was a bit different than our issue Colt A2 Sporters. :D

Steve,

Email sent.
