No LTC here, but my wife just left to drive to her parents' house up nearer Chicago. I suggested she take my Glock 30 'cause it fits nicely in a fanny pack case with a flashlight, knife, etc.

She informed me that she still has not changed her address on her FOID (you can do it online) so she can't take the gun. I'm not very happy about this, but I know what she means. If she's pulled over and things somehow reach a point where the LEO knows she has a gun, she'll be arrested for any violation possible. It actually gets worse the closer she gets to Chicago. Without a valid FOID she'd be charged with UUW, possibly a felony, which could mean she wouldn't be able to teach anymore.

So she chose to take the knife and a serious flashlight, but leave the gun at home. We're not even talking about carrying a gun, here, just having it in the car unloaded and in a case. It burns me that "they" can do that to her simply for not changing the address on a stupid piece of plastic, but that's the law here.
