I have an old Marlin 30AS.
I was looking for the serial number, but could not find it.
Can anybody tell me where it is on the gun??
Is it not supposed to be stamped on the reciever??
Help me please!! I need it for an insurance list!! :scrutiny:

I believe you'll find the serial number on the upper tang.

Does that mean it's probably under my scope???

It should be right on top of the steel strap that comes off the receiver and runs back towards the butt of the stock; when you grip the rifle to fire it, the tang is the piece that's running down between your thumb and trigger finger. The rifle was introduced after serial numbers became mandatory, so if it's not there, someone must've taken it off.

I found it, thanks!! :D
It must have been later than I thought while I was working on the list!!
I completely missed it!!
You all will have to excuse my unfamiliarity with long guns. They are not my forte!!!
