Which 9mm to buy in 2 weeks

April 12, 2007, 03:05 PM
Doing this for fun mainly but may actually go with the winning poll results!! A local dealer is giving $100 off any $500+ purchase sometime in the next 2 weeks. If I keep my purchase as close to $500 I'll maximize my discount (20%).

I'm wanting another 9mm and I'm considering the G19 ($569) XD sc ($479) or a used H&K USP full size ($575). All fit my hand well and I can't decide.

Well, my personal preference isn't up there. *cough*SIG*cough* ;)

However, all three are excellent choices. It'd be a toss up between the Glock and the HK. Probably the HK (depending on how "used").

I have been very pleased with the Glocks in my collection(17 and 26). Based on this experience, I would say the Glock 19. The others are also good pistols. See which one fits your hands the best. I don't think you will be disappointed with any of the choices.

Glock 19. I have a 19 and 26 and love them both. I'll be getting an HK P/PS 2000 but chambered in .40. I won't buy a S&W XD I didn't like the one I fired at the range.

That said IMHO the best 9mm ever developed was teh Glock 19/17. either one is reliable and indestructible.

Tough call. I voted for the USP, but it's pretty much a coin toss with the Glock 19. Depends on what you want to do with the pistol -- I consider the USP-F to be a bit big for CCW, so if that's a consideration, the Glock 19 may be better.

If you are looking to carry, I would recommend the XD subcompact. If not, I would also recommend the service size XD, its easier to shoot than the sc. Its personal preference, but I find the XD line fits my hand better than the Glocks. I also find I am faster at target acquisition with the XD, I tend to aim high with the Glock.

I also own a USP, and its my favorite of the bunch for time at the range. But as a full size weapon, its a little to much for me to carry. Good luck and good shooting!

April 12, 2007, 04:19 PM
i like the glock 17/19's. easy to get, easy to work on, and parts are easily available.

April 12, 2007, 04:21 PM
XD SC ............:)

April 12, 2007, 04:28 PM
You have a USPc .40 right? Then I would likely go with the USP Full Size used in either caliber. The feel will be the same.

April 12, 2007, 05:06 PM
Yep, I have a USP 40c and a M&P 9 mm full. I like them both.

CPO SIG P226. Tick over $500 :D

I voted for the USP as long as it's in good condition. It's value used it as much or more than the others and it's a great gun. Concealing it would be tougher than the other 2 though but that's not in your criteria. It's a toss up for the other 2. Both are great. For me I like the XD because the grip safety is just one extra thing to make me feel secure and the grip angle is nice. The G19 on the other hand has super cheap mags and accessories and is as much if not more reliable. You can't go wrong with any of them.

I've shot the SIGs and they are nice but I don't care for the "fat" grips on them. They just don't work well in my hands.

All three are great guns, as are the Sigs, CZs, and countless other guns. You should take some range time the next couple of weeks and rent the guns your interested in.

S&W doesn't make the XD, Springfield Armory does. I'd get that. Excellent gun.

April 13, 2007, 12:10 AM
why don't you get a brand new USP?

I voted Glock... but that price is WAY too high.

April 13, 2007, 12:47 AM
I prefer HK myself.

If the deal works that way, I'd say a CZ and enough accessories to make $500. A Sig 226 would be my second choice. It used to be my first choice until I bought a CZ 75B. The CZ is that good.

Out of the three you listed I would suggest the Glock. Very reliable and cheap mags. 32 round mags for fun. I do agree that the price seems high for a Glock. I bought my 17 in 2005 for $300 and my 19 in 2006 for $325. Both are used 2nd gen ( don't like finger grooves ). I don't know what new ones are going for though.

My choice Beretta PX4 Storm...

April 13, 2007, 09:32 AM
My vote goes to the G19. In my area Glocks start out at 570.00, 100 off is a great price. But seen a used G19 w/ns, for 425 in the classifieds:)

April 13, 2007, 02:15 PM
Here in FL ,if you call around to the dealers you can find new G19's for $500 out the door. So with your 20 percent discount you would save $113.80, bringing the price down to $455.20. Then you have tax, background check, etc. So that's about right.

Browning Hi Power. You'll probably never see that kind of a discount on one, so use it wisely.

Of the ones you've listed I'd go Glock first. IMO the G19 is the "best of the breed". I do have a XD45 and LOVE it. I had a USP, and IMO they're just too damn big. I sold it and don't regret it.

April 13, 2007, 02:31 PM
My choice Beretta PX4 Storm...

I have one, and love it. Still considered trendy by the guys at the range, but I think it will come into its own over time. It has been 100% reliable, with over 2,000 rounds, including +P, thru it now.

April 13, 2007, 02:52 PM
I can't imagine the Browning Hi Power is any smaller than the USPc??

I like the Berretta PX4 Storm but it just doesn't look all that attrractive to me.

April 13, 2007, 03:02 PM
USP if you want something with a hammer, Glock if you don't.

April 13, 2007, 03:27 PM
None of the above.....
Get a BHP

April 13, 2007, 03:30 PM
M&P 9 compact over the XD9sc any day

April 13, 2007, 03:59 PM
Glock all the way for those choices. IMO XDs just don't fit me right and Sigs look like high priced Hi-Points

April 18, 2007, 05:27 PM
Went today and got a used USP f in a 9mm for $390!! This thing is in better condition than my USPc .40 I picked up a few weeks ago. Just couldn't talk myself into the Glock...don't like the feel.

Can't wait for the range.

April 18, 2007, 08:41 PM

The real choice should be in your hand, weight and balance, draw to aim, comfort and the "feels right" or "best" among your 3 choices.

Kinda how I choice my 3 guns, 40cal, (price was right too) 9mm Carry, and the 380 for the wifes gun, and our bug once she moves up to 9mm.

If you can find a range that has them, put 100 rounds thru each.

Good luck, as if price is a concern, then I too, would suggest maybe looking at a Beretta Px4 9mm, as I can attest to the 40cal's uniqueness.

If price is not the concern, then I can attest to the Sig P229 9mm

But, it should be what fits your hand the most natural feel of weight, balance, and grip, that all fits as if your hand was made for that gun.

Worked for me, and many others in here, I suspect.

Good luck, and enjoy

BB, I usually respond to threads like this with, " get the one that best fits your hands and is easy for you to reach all controlls and gets the best sight picture, but no more. BB, get a walther P-99, IMO the best handgun out there... if you can, take a look at the P-99 in 40 s&w too. I have a G-19 and a full USP but again, IMO the P-99 out classes them both.

I like the HKs, mags to pricey for my taste though.
