Its a Pietta 1858 target model with adjustable sights.

The trigger pull was long and stagey, so I took it apart and polished the contact points up a bit and now the trigger is pretty nice. Guess it was just a little rough.

I really like the way the cylinder pin just slides out - this is definately an improvement over the colt's keyed barrels but I still like the way the colts look.

I was kind of surprised when I put this in my hand - was lighter and more sveldt that I expected. I think the smaller grips make it look top heavy or something, but it balances well in spite of them.

Looking forward to shooting it :D

I love 1858s, but I'd prefer one with fixed sights.

Let us know how it performs, how the steel holds up and such.

I have several traditional cap and balls. I too thought I was going to buy a standard fixed sight 58 - then the sales clerk comes out with this one in addition to the standard one. I look at it and think - "it sure would be nice to be able to dial this in to the load I pick" and that was that. :D

I like that tall partridge front sight. How would you rate the sight picture when it's combined with the rear...excellent? :)

Its very good but could be improved a bit by widening the rear notch to allow for a little light on either side of the front sight.

It's miles ahead of the notch sights and very durable - the rear sight is designed to be adjusted and then tightened.

Here is a review I did of my 1858 Target:

I like my 1851 colt .36 better, but the Army is still a good gun.

man, with the tall front sight, I'd expect it to shoot a bit low - didn't expect it to shoot high - but maybe at 25 yards you're spot on?

I'll see how mine does.

Yeah, I was surprised how high it shot too. I figured the same thing, with the tall sight that it would shoot low too but it didn't.
