I'm in Appleton, WI for the summer and was wondering if there are any good gun shops around here.

The only ones I know of in Appleton are Sheels Sports in the Fox River Mall, and Gander Mountain. There are several in Oshkosh, and in Green Bay, Olsen Sales is pretty good, On Sight has wierd hours, and Bertrands has lots of reloading stuff. Triple J in Kellnersville (35 mi east of you) can order anything you want usually at a good price, and has a decent sporting clays course too. Appleton Rifle Pistol Club has a 600 yd range, but it's easy to miss. There's no signs, it's the dirt road overgrown with weeds next to the self storage building on the attached map. I went to the Appleton Rifle and Pistol Club this past Wed. with a guy that I live with. Is Gander Mountain a dedicated firearms shop? Specifically, I'm looking for a Beretta 391, Remington 870 Police with ghost rings (new or used), and good deals on used HK P7s.

No, they carry fishing and camping stuff too.

Toms Military Arms & Gun Shop Discount Store at 355 N. Main in Fond du Lac 920-923-0205

Tom Hardell carries a large assortment of handguns and AR's mainly Armalite, but has others as well. I was never in his store but he always had a good spread at the gunshows. He doesn't take trades if I remember right.

Jons Sport Shop in Oshkosh on hwy 45 (Jackson Street)carries a large assortment. As long as you are there stop At Reds across the street.

Toms in Fond Du Lac has decent prices, but a bad attitude. Bills Guns and Midwest Shooters Supply are ten miles south of Fond Du Lac in Lomira, and both are much better to deal with.

Midwest and Bill's are good, with Bill's having the better staff. They're just up the street from Midwest.

Triple J is probably my favorite. Not a big selection, but he's willing to order anything, and does transfers. PM me if you're interested in shooting a round or two out there some weekend...

I agree, the guy is not nice. I wanted to view a ruger 7mm and he would not get it utill I paid full price. that is a popular gun and it would sell even if I did not want it after viewing it.
