Which, if any, rounds have the same rim size as 7.62x54R?

I've given up on trying to find original functional stripper clips for Mosin rifles. 303 British clips look like they'd work if modified slightly )(and then marked to avoid confusion) but they'd only hold four rounds of 7.62
Do any other relatively common cartridges share the case size with 7.62x54? If not, it almost looks like we'd have to start making our own clips...either from brass or from hard plastic (pretty much disposable). Wonder if any building materials happen to be shaped right for the task.

I picked up 20 from J&G and another 20 from Numrich. I've put lots of rounds through both and they work fine for me in four different rifles(two Finns, two Russians). If you want to try them, I'll send you one of each and you can try them in your rifles.
I think the biggest problem is the rimmed ammo. You gotta get the top round in front of the bottom rounds. If you don't get the rims lined up right, they jam up when stripping off the top of the mag just like 32ACP.

Does the Enfield "one up,one down" stripper clip loading technique work with mosins?
It shouldn't be too hard to make mosin stripper clips, since they're just bent pieces of sheet brass.

Andrew,
I'm not 100% certain, but no, I don't believe that it does.
The Nagant has a device in the magazine that helps prevent rim lock. I think that if you load "up-down" Enfield style, this defeats the device and will lead to jams.

If you look around a bit, you may be able to find surplus 7.62x54R ammo packed in the clips. I bought a spam can of Russian surplus just for that reason a year or two ago.

IIRC ... with the Enfield stacking it was I think ''2 down'' and ''three up'' ....... meaning that last round in when stripping, is leading ready for bolt take up. Loading one at a time into a mag seems not to make too much difference.
I have no 54R strippers and so load into Mossy mag one at a time ... they do usually seem to feed OK.

Oleg what metal are your 7.62x54 stripper clips made out of?
The reason I ask, is that I've also had trouble getting the steel clips to work as well.
( New Chinese made Nagant rifle and carbine chargers. Made from pressed steel these clips are reusable - according to the place I bought them from ).

The alternating in Enfield clips only works because Enfields have double-stack magazines. In a single-stack Mosin, it would just jam up the first round.

Steel clips, bought at gun show for $16 for 20. Vendor agreed to take them back, will have to bring them with me next time.

I have no experience with Mosin-Nagant clips but I may get some soon.

Actually, I recall an article about the 7.62x54R where it started by discussing the other cartridges sharing its rim. They were all ultra-obscure, old-western-scrounger type stuff.
But the strippers are available. I picked up a batch of mosin strippers at Tapco which work OK after breaking them in. They still sell them. $10 for twenty. You may want to loosen them up with some pliers if they don't feed smoothly.

Actually, that's backwards. It needs to be 2 up, 3 down for Lee-Enfields.

As a brand new convert to Mosin-Nagants in general and a really sweet "B" barrel Finn in particular, I happened upon some M-N strippers on Ebay. They're new steel clips and work pretty well with my M39. I say pretty well as this is my first rimmed rifle and I'm still getting the hang of it. The seller lists them constantly at $9.99 for 20 plus S&H.
Stay safe.

Oleg, you're welcome! I'm glad they worked for you.
As a brand new convert to Mosin-Nagants in general and a really sweet "B" barrel Finn in particular Monkeyman, A Finn M/39 is a great start in the world of Mosins! They are sweet rifles. My first was an M/39 "B" barrel as well. Man, I love that rifle. Now I've got another Sk.Y M/39, an M38 carbine, and a 91/59 carbine. I suspect that a 91/30 and an M44 are soon to follow. Mosins are like potato chips :D Good luck with your rifle!
You guys need to check out the Curio and Relics forums at www.gunsnet.net (http://www.gunsnet.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=337) there some real cool Mosin nuts there too. I know they're cool because they've got a Finn M/39 in their logo. ;)

Tapco usually has stripper clips for the 7.62x54 Mosin-Nagants. They sell for about $10 for 20 clips. Tapco also has the leather pouch for holding 4 loaded clips.
