Hello, all. I've just bought a lovely Schmidt-Rubin K31 Swiss straight-pull rifle in caliber 7.5x53.5mm. The milsurp ammo that's available is all Berdan-primed, but I understand Boxer-prime cases are available, or soon will be, in this caliber. The milsurp ammo I have has a 196gr. bullet.

I'm informed by many people that the 7.5mm. caliber is actually the same bore diameter as "normal" .30 caliber rounds - i.e. .308". Can anyone confirm this? I haven't been able to find any documentation on the round so far.

Also, does anyone reload this caliber? I'm interested in doing so, for obvious reasons of economy. I'll probably look at bullets in the 165-180gr. range. Any suggestions or load ideas would be most welcome.

Finally, any recommendations on dies, etc. for the round? I know they're made by a number of companies. What do you use?

Many thanks in advance for the informative replies... :D

Hornady manuals have loading information for this round, and they show reloading information using .308 bullets. It's not a bad idea to slug your bore, though.

RCBS dies are as good as any. I don't know if Lee makes dies in 7.5 Swiss,

Norma produces both loaded ammo and brass, but it's not cheap.

Lee does make dies ... part number 625-657 at MidwayUSA. I'll second Mike's "not cheap" comment about the boxer primed ammo, but it still seemed like a better deal than the raw brass when I bought mine! I haven't started reloading yet.

Preach: I have a friend that reloads for his K31. Uses 284 win brass, and any old 308 bullets (150, 168). Pretty much like a 308 round, same powder and qty, etc. Gets about 3 moa with the typical load.

7.5X53.5? Have I missed something? Isn't the Schmidt & Rubin K31 chambered for 7.5X55mm Swiss?
