No gunshows in San Antonio at present?

I noticed that SAXET has "new location TBA" listed for the old location, and the Alzafar show doesn't start up until July.
So I guess I'm out of luck unless I want to drive to Austin.
Nothing against Austin mind you; I just like having a local show.

There was a show there last weekend, according to gunshows-usa.com. I had planned to sell at the Saxet show but they said they have cancelled them until they get switched to the new venue. I didn't know who was doing the show last weekend, so I didn't risk the trip.
BTW, how is the show normally? Is it a pretty big show? I haven't been to that one yet and it's a 550 mile trip for me, so I'm a bit anxious about it. I'm just now expanding my show schedule and San Antonio and Austin are in my plans for the near future.

Plink,
I've found both the Broadway/Airport and Alzafar shows to be more than satisfactory. Of course, coming from CA anything is an improvement, gunshow-wise. ;)
Truly though, I've found San Antonio gunshows to be great: guns, ammo, magazines, jerky, what more can I ask for?

That's great news. If they work out for me, Austin and San Antonio will keep me busy 2 weekends a month. :)

Just remember if you go to the Austin show you will be in a pretty bad neighborhood and you are not allowed to carry inside the venue{ your CHL piece must be unloaded and zip tied}

That's a bummer. I missed the show in Live Oak last week due to domestic issues. I thought to myself, "That's OK- I'll just catch the next one in a few weeks." I guess I am going to have to wait a bit longer. Why the dearth of gunshows here? What's going on?

Don't feel too bad about missing the one at Live oak. There wasn't too much to it. It looks like the Austin show will have to be more of a regular thing. I am new to the high road, are there many members from the San Antonio area? I've been stationed here at Randolph for about a year now.

Brian,
There are more than a handful of us in San Antonio.
I'm in Sonoma Ranch.
The Alzafar and Broadway shows were my usual shopping trips, but it looks like I'll be heading up to Austin now!

Grayrock, I talked to the Saxet folks a little while back. They said they're moving the show to a new venue and will have a schedule up as soon as they work out the particulars. Hang in there. It shouldn't be long before they're back in the saddle. It would have been my first show there.
Hoji, could you tell me a little about the Austin show? Is it a busy show? Think it'd be worth it for a vendor to drive 500 miles? I'm just getting a show schedule together for the summer and I have never been to the Austion or San Antonio shows.

Might want to check on SAXET, I went last month and was told it was the last one for several months as the venue (S.A. Airport Convention Center) was sold and would be leveled to build a new hotel. However, there was a tattoo show there this past weekend. The SAXET web site just mentions the change, it does not state if there is a show or not. It used to list dates, now I notice it doesn't...
Yest that is true. The Broadway convention center building where the monthly saxet shows have been has been sold. No more saxet shows there. I was told by a local dealer that a lot of saxet dealers will start going to the live oak show now.
The live oak shows are usually not very good, and have lots of non-gun garbage. Maybe now they will get better...

Apr 7-8 San Antonio, Live Oak Civic Center, Texas Gun Shows darwinboe@yahoo.com

Live Oak Civic Center is at the intersection of Pat Booker Road and Loop 1604. It is just east of I-H 35 on the northeast side of San Antonio, near the Forum shopping center.
Looks like a Saxet show is scheduled for June 2-3 at the Alzafar Shrine Temple.

Read a rumor that Saxet was looking at a former Builder's Square building off Walzem Road near I-35 for future shows. I've been to all three Saxet venues in Austin and San Antonio and I'm glad Saxet is out of the old Airport Convention Center--it always appeared too crowded, both for vendor tables and for attendees. If rumor about former Builder's Square building is true, it may actually be an improvement, space-wise. Not a great part of town, though. Saxet show at Alzafar is not bad, but layout is odd (IMHO). Saxet's current Austin location is not bad. Never could figure out why shows in the Live Oak Civic Center weren't more successful--it's a good location and convenient to most of the area. Parking is somewhat limited, so maybe that affects attendance.

I was at the Saxet show near the San Antonio Airport, and had already been thinking the security was lax at the entrance. They had a kid there checking guns, and not even paying attention. I had thought if that was how cursory they where checking the guns coming in, how well did they check the zip-strips of the guns on the tables, before opening.
Sure enough, about two hours in, a shot went off. ND at the first table near the entrance door, and a man just walking in gets hit in the right groin, very very close to his femoral artery. Of course, the table was shut down and the seller banned, but it was a little too late. I will never go back to a Saxet show.
