Winchester Model 21

Is there such a thing as an affordable Model 21? One that is not beat to pieces and still functions? I know "affordable" is a relative term. Also, what is the difference between the Model 21 and the Model 23? Did either or both come in 16 gauge?

In these days of $2000 Colt pistols, "black" rifles, and Browning Citori's, I don't find the price of M 21's to be out of line. They certainly hold their value better than most guns.
The model 21 is decidedly different than the M 23. The M 23 is cheaper, and not as strong. Also parts for it are more difficult to come by than those for the 21.
I am not sure if the 23 was available in 16ga. I have only seen 12's & 20's. The M 21 was available in 16ga, and I regret the time I passed up one from the custom shop.

I shot trap last week with Wayne Sheets, of the NRA and the National Firearms museum. He shot with a 21 that had been Fred Etchen's. Ran them...
Another 21 fan I know has 4 or 5 of them, and he loves them. Possibly the strongest SxS ever made, they last incredibly long without needing work other than TLC.
The 23s were blue collar doubles made to compete with Savage and Stevens shotguns. Fine guns also, but without the hand work and cachet of the 21.
Sorry, every 21 I've seen has been up there in price, the cheapest was about $3500 and needed restoration.
The early double trigger 21s were just as strong and rather plain, you may want to look for one of these is price is an issue.
HTH...
