SKS owners: An accuracy question...

I'm thinking about buying one for plinking/truck gun duty, but I don't have a lot of experience with one (occasionally shooting my father's ChiCom version).
What kind of mechanical/benchrest accuracy should I expect from a stock version (wood stock, 10-rd. fixed mag, etc) at 100 & 200 yds.? I know not to expect 1/2 MOA, but I don't want a shotgun pattern either. And what can be done to "accurize" one? I'm already planning to add a scope to one (eyes ain't what they used to be).
Also, for the Yugo ones, how does one remove the grenade sights?
Many thanks in advance...

if your absolutly sure you want to scope it,consider the drill and tap receiver mounts.the mounts that replace the receiver cover just dont cut it with me.ive tried about 5 different mounts and the only one that satisfied me was the original drill tap mounts that use a drilled block on the side and the bases/rings fasten to that.your best bet is to buy several brands and experiment with them to see which it likes-then stick with that one.as far as accuracy, each gun is different.for the money, the sks rifles ARE fine guns.i get between 2 and 3" groups at 100yards with the russian made gun i have.it likes umc softpoints.for the 60 bucks i have in it,i think it does fine.

I can do 3 inch 100 yrd groups with Wolf ammo and my red dot which is about as good as I had expected from it. Who knows what it might do with good ammo.

In my experience with a number of different rifles anywhere between 2 and 6 inches at 100 yards is a good bet.

Mike is right on the accuracy, but very few will do 2". Mine does about 3" with Silver Bear ammo, but my eyes are old.
There isn't much you can do to accurize a SKS. Bedding the action in the stock is the main way to accurize, but the way the action is held in the stock at the front is the problem point when bedding. There is also the trick of putting a semi-flexible spacer between the gas tube and the barrel. I tested this with a couple of peices of a plastic shotshell hull and will try some RTV silicone next. Before I bedded it, it would shoot about 6" @ 100 yards. Now at 3" it's good enough for "minute of coyote" out to 200 yards.
There are some rare ones that will shoot 2" @ 100 yds right out of the box.
