a local range I was interested in visiting for the first time has a rule posted that on the rifle range, an open bolt flag must be in so the officer can see that the line is cold. And, if you don't have them, they can be provided at a "nominal" cost. Don't know what that is.

Now, the closest thing I could find online was an AR15 chamber safety flags at Brownells (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=16651) .

Are there any other ones out there that are economical to get for multiple rifle types, or should the AR15 ones work in any rifle?

Thanks!

Better to buy it at the range. Shipping charges will kill you.

Check out

$1.25 each, free shipping (maybe, I did not pursue the possibility of fine print.)

That's what it says. Free shipping is unusual on such a small priced item. I'd order 2 or more.

A piece of coathanger and some duct tape won't suffice?

I've never seen a range require an OBI (Open Bolt Indicator) of informal shooters but they are required at organized rifle matches. The AR-15 flag you guys posted is extremely common, I have about 5 or 6 myself to make sure I always have one and that I can loan one to a newbie if needed. The curve keeps the OBI from falling out of an AR chamber.

Anything that sticks in the chamber and out of the ejection port is acceptable.

Mine were required/acquired at the local club's public sighting-in days where I once checked my scopes' zeros before the elk season opened. Given that there was no range fee and club members provided both spotting and spotting scopes, springing for a couple of flags would have been cheap at several times the price. We, the shooting community, do have some great folk.
