I remember reading a post on THR sometime back about how the U.S. includes in it's homicide count actual murders, justifiable homicides, and suicides while other countries count only murders (thus, making the U.S. homicide rate look far worse than other countries).

Can someone please post links to supporting info on this, I haven't been able to find it. I think it may be helpful to make this information some more visibility, as I've seen this issue come up an increasing amount in the last few hours.

Thanks!

According to the FBI, they don't:

The UCR Program does not include the following situations in this offense classification: deaths caused by negligence, suicide, or accident; justifiable homicides; and attempts to murder or assaults to murder, which are scored as aggravated assaults.

Source (http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/05cius/offenses/violent_crime/murder_homicide.html).

The Brady bunch, on the other hand includes suicides, accidents, people tripping over a gun and hitting their head, self defense, etc.. as "gun violence." Hence how 10K homicides magically transforms into 30K in their propaganda.

They also fail to state that the number one killer with firearms is still, and has been for years, *drum roll* police action, and by a wide margin.

Kind of...convenient...for them, huh?
