Don't fire off a note to your newspaper or congresscritter while you're angry (yeah, I know... at least let it settle down a little, and then go back and look at it), after you've had a few drinks, or if you're moderately tired/mind-altered, or just plain buzzed...
Remember Zumbo. If he'd been 100%, he probably would still be writing hunting columns.
The same thing applies to us.

When I'm mad (ol' Irish temper) I sound like a blithering idiot. When I'm calm, I am able to make a half legitimate argument.

Everyone is giving advice on WHAT to do (good advice, btw), but who is actually doing it??
Anyone can sit around and complain about things and give pointers on what to do.
I want to see evidence of people actually DOING the tedious, boring work of sending e-mail after e-mail.
Has anyone but me and Tim from my site left a comment on the pro gun editorial I posted?

Huntmeister, I'm going to bed (walking pneumonia, and hospital with the girlfriend in the morning - I can drive, she can't), but keep in mind that in the strategy end, editorials are dandy, but if we can hit the news gatekeepers with stuff, we win big...
When people read the editorial page, if they do, they're looking for either agreement or an argument. Not that editorials are bad, but at this point, they're kinda low priority.
When they read the news pages (or watch the local news), they take what they see as FACT.
We have to influence, and make it past, the news gatekeepers.

I didn't mean to single anyone out in particular, especially you. In general, it seems like there is a lot of apathy out there when it comes to actually making the effort.
Not just this site, but all of them.
Also........ I'm not sure if I made my points clear as to the effort we have been making.
Basically......... a positive version of what the NRA and SCI puts out.
Instead of hammering just the people who come out against us, we try and PRAISE those who do the right thing.
For example, say someone like Hillary (impossible, I know) came out FOR CCW on campus, we would send letters to ALL of the media in her district PRAISING her stance. If a school system enacts a gun/hunters safety class, we contact their media and praise the school.
Everyone likes good PR :)

I've been writing a number of emails. When I get back in town Monday, I intend to follow up on some more of them.
Unlike Stinger, I sound like a blithering idiot most of the time, but I do what I can.

Just stay focused and concise, and remember that the shorter and tighter you keep it, the less chance you have to sound like a blithering idiot.

Guys, there is great advice in this thread, but Activism isn't for discussion.
But what we need is some examples of good letters, a path of action, and then the only posts I should see after is members telling me how many they sent.
I'm gonna move this to this to L&P.

Good advice, bogie. I was about to jump all over the Purdue paper for printing something they reported ATFE saying but it turned out to be a phantom target.:scrutiny:
