the quote button to be utilized in threads and the quickreply

Maybe I am not seeing the settings for it, but I was just wondering?

Because we used it for a while, and got fed up with the number of people who would quote an entire 3-page post and add on a "+1" or "I agree!"

It just got annoying. I miss it, but I like the less-cluttered threads.

Oh that is cool and I understand it, but what about the quick reply?

I don't know.

A quick reply would be handy, wouldn't it? I guess we made all these decisions back in 2.x days and never thought through the new features.

it is easy to turn on!

admin area > vbulletin options > Message Posting and Editing Options

that is it!! It would come in handy, TOTALLY!!

I think the quote button would be handy too, all the copy pasting of posts, and you still have no idea who originally posted

I know. ;)

But these kinds of things are voted on before they're enacted. :)

I guess it makes a difference when you cant really explaine to EVERYONE not to quote entire thousand word posts. Most other forums i am on only have 1-5 thousand members. this site is huge compared to them. When you get so many people quoting large blocks it gets kind of outrageous

msimonds and R33P3R - Take a look at the "Quote button missing? thread in this forum. When you get so many people quoting large blocks it gets kind of outrageousTo say the least!

I'm not familiar with the quick reply feature. What does it do for you? (Maybe the default is off, because I'm not sure we ever had it on.)

It's an always ready Reply window, allowing you to reply, with out clicking "Post Reply" and go to a completely new page.... You just type... Then click "Submit"... It is pretty nice.

Thanks. We're looking into it.

I prefer to have posting as difficult as possible...................

....................to give folks time to think instead of just shooting from the lip.

It's not THAT hard to cut and paste the meat of the statement you're replying to.

And it's not that hard to search a thread for a specific quote by pasting a word or phrase from it into "Find on this page" in the Edit dropdown menu.

Not to be rude or anything but that really doesn't make any sense to me

Forums such as these should be "user friendly" and having a quick reply just adds to a better UI (User Interface) for members here

Anyway, it is the owners, admins, and moderators decision and I hope they invoke it

I think JohnBT was talking about the Quote button, not the quick reply.

The Quote button will be reinstated after prying it from my cold dead hands! The quick reply feature is a different matter and looks like it would be a user friendly thing.

Ahh okay I didn't get that! Sorry about that :)

That can be fixed really easily. Just after the [quote place an = sign, and type in the poster's name, and finish off the first quote tag with the other ].

The first quote tag will look like this: [quote=xxx] (where xxx is the poster's name of the post you're quoting). When you post, you'll get the name in the quote box of whom you're quoting.

I wouldn't mind the quick reply feature. A number of other forums I post on have it in place, and it's really handy.

The quote button has been shown to have an adverse effect on people's IQ levels, so we ditched it.

But with the admins hatred of the quote feature, THR is in a distinct minority. And THAT is not a compliment.

This is the ONLY vBull forum I have ever seen that doesn't use the QUOTE feature.

You can still quote, you just have to manually select the text to quote and then paste it . The quote icon is still there. See?

You can do everything manually... BUT... that's why the Quote button is so useful.

For someone to "quote" an entire page or long post just to say "+1" or "I agree" is moronic.

For someone to "quote" an entire page or long post just to say "+1" or "I agree" is moronic.

Unfortunately, the internet doesn't come with an intelligence filter, and therefore we are subject to everything from the erudite to the moronic. By making it a tiny bit more difficult to use the quote feature, the mods here have built in a "speed bump" for those that would tend to overuse the quote feature and do exactly what you have described as "moronic"

For someone to "quote" an entire page or long post just to say "+1" or "I agree" is moronic.

And yet it happened with alarming regularity.

... THR is in a distinct minority. And THAT is not a compliment. It's not clear to me why being in a minority, distinct or not, should or should not be a compliment.

I would be willing to bet that the reason most other BB's allow the Post with Quote button is that they don't have anyone on staff who can figure out how to get rid of it! We do - it's gone.

This is the ONLY vBull forum I have ever seen that doesn't use the QUOTE feature.

It's also the ONLY one without thousand line quotes with "me too" at the bottom. I totally understand and support their decision. You'd think that after all these years, internet folks would have learned how to do things properly, but alas...

I bet you would lose that bet. There is now a multi-quote feature in vBull and if others know about that and have implemented that feature, then they would probably know how to turn Quote off. Andf if you’re so knowledgeable why didn’t you know about the Quick Reply feature? And why are you using 3.6.3, when 3.6.5 is out?

I know I won’t win this argument, it’s your ‘site and you can run it like you want. But what is the absolute height of irony is this:

On a ‘site devoted to the RKBA, when PEOPLE make mistakes, instead of punishing those transgressors, say with a temporary post ban, you punish EVERYBODY by banning the THING in question.

Not having a quote button is punishment? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

"Andf if you’re so knowledgeable ..."

I wasn't very clear on that. It's not I who knew how to get rid of the quote button.

As for the other points - so noted.

And why are you using 3.6.3, when 3.6.5 is out? Because the reasons to upgrade seem marginal to me, and I haven't felt like bringing the board down for a half hour for the process yet.

Good enough for you?

Andf if you’re so knowledgeable why didn’t you know about the Quick Reply featureMore like we make decisions as a team, and no-one had brought it up since 2.6.whatever. Lots of requests for the quote button though, which we disabled for a reason.

Just curious: why the hostility? You seem emotionally vested in how we run this board, and I don't understand why...
