Bill Bennet did a segment on Hannity & Colmes tonight, he advocated arming students and professors as a way to combat this growing trend of violence. His reasoning was solid, Bill said the assailant was crazy, but not stupid. He KNEW that VT was a "gun free zone" and that he would not face any consequences for his actions. Bill stated that we need to "put doubt in the rational part of a lunatics brain", that he might be looking down another gun barrel if he pulls a gun. I could not agree more!

My point of view on this: If the more mature and responsible students are willing to accept the responsibility of carrying a gun, then let them apply for the permit, get cleared, and allow them to carry on college campuses. I also would 100% support the administrators and professors carrying guns, those that want too and don't mind the responsibility.

I think Bill Bennet did a good thing for us today, putting this proposal out there front and center, he's very well respected among conservatives.

Funny, he use to be a anti. I guess he changed his positions, or is thinking of running for office.

Yes, if a student or educator in that building had a firearm, or even a can of mace, on them that day things might have turned out differently. Though, I believe some students still might have been killed, the death toll would not by 32 people. Cho was a deranged person, him knowing people could carry on campus would have stopped him. He was hell bent on taking people with him. The only issue is that even if students or teachers could carry, I am not sure how many would. College campuses are useally a bastion of leftism, and thus anti-gun beliefs. I am not sure it would have made a difference if VT allowed CCW on campus. Since a large %(if not 98%) of the campus population would not be carrying, the odds are that Cho could still have killed 32 people without intervention from a CCW carrier.

Quite true - and I had contempt for him because of it. However, he is a highly rational person, someone who thinks things through. I believe that he simply didn't have enough facts (and some facts, like the multitude of massacres or attempted massacres at "gun-free" sites, accumulate over time).

Glad he's now on our side. I'll accept converts.

Quite right. As President Bush's (the Elder) Drug Czar, he advocated the ban of 'assault weapons'. He probably figured heavily in the executive order ban of the import of said weapons.
