Blackpowder Oddball cartridges

Just have a quick question, I have a couple old revolvers that take weird cartridges.

First is a little ivers & johnson chambered for .32 S&W, I can only find cases for .32 s&w long, could I cut them down to size? If so how long is a .32 S&W? I thought I had heard they had a load of about 6-8 grains of black powder, if so is that ffg or fffg?

Second is an old unmarked revolver that I think is a dutch police revolver used in india or something. It seems to be some kind of 10mm rimmed cartridge, a .40 s&w fits perfect in the cylinder but is rimless. Is there a rimmed cartridge the same size? If there is what kind of load would it take?

Thanks

I don't know anything about the 10mm but I know you can still buy .32S&W cartridges. They are pricey but if you bought a few boxes you could easily reload them. I haven't seen any brass in .32 S&W sold any where either.

These were inexpensive at an antique gunshow.

starline makes 32 s&w brass, magtech and winchester still load .32 s&w too. You can get it from www.midwayusa.com I would be careful firing factory ammo through the iver johnson especially if it is a hinged action. Would be better to load black powder. I have 2 smith and wesson model 4s, one in .32 s&w and 1 in 38 s&w I load with black powder and shoot them all the time, they are a lot of fun.

It is a little saturday night special with a top strap. I had heard that the little i&j's made before about 1930 were black powder only, mine is as far as I know before that. I don't intend to shoot the smokeless round I just want the brass.

What kind of bp load do you use for the .32 s&w? Is it like a cap and ball where you fill the case so the bullet compresses the powder? I thought I had heard that the load was 6 grains of bp, but I'm not sure. Could I fill the case half up and then add cornmeal filler?

I live in Canada so I can't order ammo from the states, so I will check with a big reloading place a couple of hours away. When I talked to them last he said he could get .32 s&w long brass and not the short. Are the cases the same except for the length?
