Need Python price check

April 21, 2007, 10:55 PM
My local fun store has a 4 inch python in 357 mag. It's been chromed at some point but it's flaking off in a couple of places with minor pitting. Nothing major and would be hidden if re-chromed. It's been a nightstand gun and has not been shot much so everything is in good working order. Price tag is $350. I know nothing of Pythons but so I'd like a little help please.

I'd have to look at it, but 350 for a clean Python is unusual.

We just sold a gem-mint (98%) late 70's 4" factory nickel Colt Python for
$1,050 with NO box or docs~! ;) :D

You have to ask yourself why this Python is selling for 350.00? In order to rechrome they have to remove the existing finish completely. Chrome doesn't adhere to chrome. Chrome will not "fill in" the flaws. It will only highlight them. Who ever has this pistola for sale still has it haven't purchased it. I would keep it that way.:scrutiny:

Chances are, the finish is actually bright nickel, and may be the original finish.

Any time these days when you can buy a Python in good mechanical condition for under $800, it's a STEAL.

Buying a Python for $350 is highway YOU.

RUN, don't walk to the store and buy it.
If you wait to make your mind up, it'll be gone, and so will your chance to brag in coming years about the incredible low price you paid for a Colt Python.

A good friend of mine has a 8" Python in pretty much new condition last time I saw it, he has been kicking around the idea of selling it to buy a deer rifle, any idea what it's worth????? He has asked me a couple times what it's worth but I told him I had no idea?? Thanks

It is a stainless steel model that is very polished, looks like a damn mirror

DeerHuntr, $1100 and up for a high polish SS Python. I sold my 6" five or six years ago for $800 and am still kicking myself :banghead:

What dfariswheel said.

I just bought a NIB 6" blued unfired Python for $900.00 out the door. Never did I ever think I would pay this kind of money for a revolver.

For $350.00 you can have it refinished and repaired (if needed) and have yourself a really nice shooter. As others have said, if the finish is original, it's nickel, not chrome.

Just make sure it's a Python, not a Trooper.

I haven't see a Python that cheap in years. If it shoots, it's a bargain.
For that price, you could get it re-finished and still be way ahead of the game.

A python for $350 ?
Heck you can sell off a few parts and get your money back if ya had to.

8 inch bright polished stainless Python. Those are tough to find.
At auction, the last couple sold in the $2000-$3000 range.
Again, that's at auction.

I bought a blued 4" circa 1995 a few months ago for $1200. At $350, I would have to ask what else is wrong with it! If the finish is the only negative then I would grab it before someone else does. As mentioned, you could have the finish redone and still be way ahead of the game.

How do you tell the difference between a trooper and python?

I bought this made-in-1984 four-inch Colt Python for $900 two years ago. For California, that's a low price for one of these. It was LNIB.

Forgot to add, what does a refinished Colt Python go for? What finish is usually most desirable?
