What are good solutions for securing a rifle (Marlin 336) in a car, (91 S10 Blazer) (the rearmost cargo compartment is not an option due to water leakage during rain)?

I am looking at Beretta's Security Pack, but it is expensive. I was thinking something like that secured with a HEAVY cable and good lock. Whatever I use, it must be as resistant to bolt cutters/hacksaw blases as possible.

If a Blazer works like a Cherokee, I've thought about putting it in the back seat, cut a slot in the cushion. On a Cherkoee the rear seat forld forward with just a pull, and stands up vertical. In Canada that would meet requirements for being out of sight, in a locked vehicle.

No way am I cutting the seats- which are about the things in the best condition in the car.

And yeah, its similar to a GC. Back seat dows fold down. Ours does not have to be out of sight, though. I just want to have it secured so that if the car is broken into, they will not be able to get away with the rifle easily.
