Which CMP Garand this time?

On Father's Day I got the go ahead to begin another Garand project, this one to rebarrel in .308 and refurb the stock. DGR has been chosen as the shop.
I already have an H&R. The question this time around is since I am getting it totally refurbished if necessary, should I go as cheap as possible with a Danish rack grade or should I get a Springfield rack or service grade?
The eventual goal is to have three Garands. One for me. One for my son. One "collector" with provenance for making a proper swivel stack.:D

The Danes are taking awhile right now for some reason. Back orders are in the 200's last I checked. My service grade Dane order isn't much higher than that.

I wouldn't go with Service Grade if you are planning to rebarrel. If it were me, I'd call the CMP and see what they have laying around ready to ship. I'm guessing that Springfield rack-grade would be the way to go.

Danes are gone or on a waiting list, at best (for SG/SA model.)
Winchester SG is a great value right now, especially if you're going to rebarrel.
Good luck.

RustyHammer - Isn't the service grade simply a rack grade with a better barrel (for slightly more money)? If you are looking to replace the barrel, why bother spending the extra bucks, unless you are paying for immediate availability?

The only reason I might go service grade is to shoot out the stock barrel before the refurb.

My bad, I ment to say RG - Rack Grade. I don't even belive the Winchester SG's are available anymore. Thanks for correcting me!
