I just purchased a Taurus Model 85 Stainless with 2" barrel and external hammer. I have my CCW and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to a good holster I should use for concealment purposes? I also should mention that I live in Ohio and while driving I need to either have the gun in a holster on my person ( not lying on the passenger seat or in a compartment that I could easily get too!) or locked in some manner. Locking it up while driving kinda defeats the purpose, since you never know when you will need it! I would appreciate any input that anyone had on the matter.

Thanks,
Roger

Hey there! Welcome to THR. Most of the people here are probably using custom holsters for their everyday carry. As far am I'm concerned there are many good commercially available holsters out there. Some of the best are Bianchi's. I've taken the liberty of searching their site for you. (don't be too thankful, it takes all of 3 seconds) Here's what they've got as far as the Taurus 85 goes.

I'd like to suggest the 3S Pocket Pistol. No doubt others will be around shortly with other great choices.

SniperStraz,
Thanks for the suggestion and it certainly looks like the 3S would be helpful while driving since it also could be used for crossdraw!

Roger,

While my snubby (Charter Arms Off Duty) is generally carried using my Barami Hip-Grips, I realize that isn't a really popular method with a lot of people. I generally have found a high ride IWB holster worn appendix carry is decent while driving. It allows fairly easy access to the handgun, and is well concealed under a shirt while walking around. A couple things that may hinder this type of carry are a large stomach (can be uncomfortable) or over sized grips (they are concealable when riding lower, but tend to tent out in a high ride appendix carry). I prefer the thin kydex or suede over the thicker leather for comfort. My grandfather oak hidden companion fits well and retains well, too (it comes with a loop, which doesn't add bulk to the holster).

Philvis,
Thanks for the suggestion. I certainly think that it is going to be difficult to find something that is comfortable with the ability to have fast access to my gun if the need arises. Ohio's law has to be one of the dumbest that I can think of and hopefully they will get around to changing it one day!

No problem RogerM. You may also want to look into a Fobus kydex holster. It's a nice cheap alternative that you can use until you decide what you really want.

i frequently drive long distance from michigan back to new england and have to travel through the wonderful state of ohio...
I usually have my springfield XD SC with me or my bersa .380. I usually have an IWB on but i also keep an ankle holster on. if i'm hunkering down for a 3-4 hr spell in the car, i will put the gun in my ankle holster (left) for comfort and accessibility. I found a cheap one on ebay for $15.
might be best for the snubbie...

back before OH changed the law, i used the ankle holster w/ an extra piece of velcro strapped to my upper thigh so it was "visible" from outside the vehichle.
