Last year the Indiana Department of Natural Resources lifted their administrative ban on carrying pistols in state parks. This change will expire this year, 2007.

Hearing to make the rule change permanent are scheduled for May 15, 2007 in Peru and May 16 in Mitchell. Comments can be sent to DNR in Indianapolis.

I urge our Hoosier THR members to send their comments to:

Hearing Officer
Natural Resources Commission
402 West Washington Street
Room W272
Indianapolis, Indiana 46204

email: jkane@nrc.IN.gov

???

I though this was due to executive order, and I had no idea that this would expire.

I will certainly be checking out your links here. Thanks once again.

kludge, it would not have happened without Mitch, however, we need to do our part.:)

I've read the link... Does this only apply carrying a self-defense handgun while hunting? So this does not affect the E.O. regarding carry in state parks when not hunting?

Also the wording makes it sound like this only affects turkey season and bow season. Is that true? My self defense handgun is not deer-legal which would also prevent me from carrying during firearms season.

Just trying to get my facts straight before I write an e-mail.

edit: nevermind... I just needed to follow a few more links...

more like posting and reading :)

After e-mailing, I sent an e-mail to all my gun-friendly friends with this same info and part of my e-mail as a sample.

It was my "15 minutes" for the cause this week.

Thanks again Tejon to you and people like you who take the time to follow all the goins-on.

From http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/about/rules.html
The public comment period for the handgun-related rule changes is now over. The DNR and Natural Resources Commission are reviewing all of the public comments at this time. A report that includes all of the public comments and a response by the DNR will be available after July 1. These rule changes are expected to be presented to the Natural Resources Commission for final adoption at their meeting on July 17 at Pokagon State Park.

Now that the public comment period is over, is there anything else that can be done? or is it time to wait patiently to see the outcome?

Yes, write Daniels a letter in support of the rule change being made permanent.:)

Thanks for your help.

IndianaBoy, you move too fast for bureaucracy.:D Deep breathing, my friend.

Go dry practice, we'll keep you updated.:D

The admin change does not expire until September. I would not anticipate any action unti shortly after Labor Day.

Sorry I am too late to officially voice my opinion. I go to a local park all the time to play disc golf...it would be nice if I was able to legally carry. I eagerly await the results.
