I have the choice to get either a Bushmaster AR-15 M4 a3 without the LE markings on it or one with LE markings on it for $100 more. Which would you choose and why?

I certainly wouldn't pay a $100 premium just to get LE markings on an otherwise identical rifle. Is there supposed to be some difference in the quality of the parts used in the LE marked rifles?

If I buy the cheaper model I can spend the $100 difference on ammo or spare magazines.
I did go out late in '04 after the AWB sunset and purchase a Colt 6721 marked LE only. I suppose that 50 years after I'm dead and gone it might be an interesting variation worth a buck or two more to some collector. It doesn't fire any differently than an unmarked model tho'.

All other things equal, I'd buy the cheaper one.

I don't really care about markings, I only care how reliable it is and how it shoots.

$100 more for the same rifle? :scrutiny:

Sounds like someone is trying to make some quick money from the foolish with a gimmick.

For $160 more I would be paying for LE markings and a rail. Should I go for it?

Call me paranoid, but, wouldnt that be a perfect excuse for an LEO to confiscate it?

The real question is, what is a rail worth to you? Do you want to be able to mount a VFG, flash light, etc... with ease. Is the rail free floated? do you want/need the extra accuracy given by a free float?

Are they both in new condition? Is one nicer than the other, or less worn?

Honestly, if you want the best price/quality, you can get a better rifle for less than either of those.

Stag Arms, you could do a Stag w/ a flat top for less than or right at $800.

Where at in Nevada are you? Vegas?

Looks like a YHM rail (http://www.yankeehillmachine.com/store/forearms.html). It's certainly worth $160 installed.

Really the only question is do you want a rail or not?

[my opinion]The rail will make your AR front heavy and what are you going to use it for?

I have one on one of my ARs and the only thing that gets attached to it is the rail covers. [/my opinion]

Well, more people do HBAR's that add unneccessary weight. A rails is peanuts compared to that.

I don't care for the YHM rails specifically, a rail should be free floated, not only to increase accuracy but more importantly to increase the stability of the mounting platform.

Well, more people do HBAR's that add unneccessary weight. A rails is peanuts compared to that.True. But both of those Bushies are M4 profile. (And Bushmaster does a real M4 profile not that lame ripoff that some do where they only cut the groove in front of the sight. )

I don't care for the YHM rails specifically, a rail should be free floated:confused: YHM makes free float rails. Mine is.

Oh, oops. It's been a while since I've handled a YHM rail, but I may have confused them with another brand...

For the $100 bucks you will get a rifle with POTENTIAL collectable value VS a run of the mill. The LE marked was for a 10 year period in collector value 20 years from now it will be desirable. (if you are still allowed to have or sell it) It depends on your risk acceptability’s.

To me it is a couple weeks of lunches and beer. :D

Despite being perfectly legal to own, by having an "LE Only" marked weapon you run the risk of being hassled by an ignorant/uninformed LEO.
