I have a 22 cal short revolver that is either chrome or nickel?. It is marked on the top strap OMEGA MOD. 500. It has a fold up trigger and the barrel is marked GERMANY 28501. Does anyone know who or where this revolver was made. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

It would've been made in Germany (obviously), but Omega was a company that bought guns from whichever company could give them the best deal at a given time (this was at a time when they could turn around and sell those guns in the US, pre-1968). There are a couple of major companies that MIGHT'VE made this revolver, but you'll have to take off the grips to see which one; "Rohm" (the same people that made the "RG" series) should be marked with a <R> on the inside of the grip frame, Herbert Schmidt should be named, Weihrauch may or may not be named, and a company named EM-GE Sportgerate should be marked with an "EM-GE" inside the grips.

SDC. Thanks for the reply. The grips are missing and the only thing I can see on the grip frame is what appears to be RECK or BECK inside an oblong circle. Again thanks for the reply. THOR.

Reck was ANOTHER manufacturer (like Rohm, Herbert Schmidt, etc.) that sold guns under its own name, as well as to distributors like Omega. There should be some German proofs on this revolver as well, that will at least tell you when it was produced.

SDC, there are three proof marks on the left side just in front of the cylinder. One appears to be a shield with 61 in it (mfg date)?, one looks like another shield with an acorn pattern and the third one is hard to see, maybe a mushroom or a tree? I assume finding grips for this gun would be nearly impossible? Any further info would be great. Thank you again for your help.

I have had one of those little <RG> before. I was afraid to shoot the thing.

1961 would be the date of manufacture, but for grips, you may be stuck with trying to find a dealer with another one, or with trying to make your own.
