What's your favorite gun?

January 7, 2003, 04:12 PM
Whether you own it or not.

Whether your reason is the way it looks, the way it shoots, sentimental value, it's utility or any other of umpteen different reasons.

But pick just one.

my 98 mauser sporter that I got for christmas this year. My grandad's gun that he and his two brothers all went hunting with.
There all gone now but Ill never forget them and all they taught me.

M1918A1 Browning Automatic Rifle. A man's weapon! Big ugly and spews out load toward the bad guys.

My Dad carried in one in the Pacific in WWII.

I don't own a full auto one but I do have semi-auto M1918A3. Its fun to shoot and very accurate.

January 7, 2003, 04:25 PM
Ma Deuce!;)

January 7, 2003, 04:25 PM
Rem 870 20 ga lightweight. I shoot it like it's a part of me. I can't remember the last time it's failed to bag a Ruffed Grouse for me. Now I'm a darn fine shot with my handguns and rifles too, but that old beat up lightweight just swings so sweet that I can't even explain it.

January 7, 2003, 04:27 PM
My favorite in terms of the one I most look forward to shooting?.. It's gotta' be the .50 Grizzly. Although you've posed a very difficult question.

January 7, 2003, 04:29 PM
That's easy:

My .357mag
My 1911
My CZ75B

Greater combination of handiness, weight, ergonomics, firepower, etc., have never been put into a better package.

S&W 686 PLUS. Reliable, accurate, and built to last for ever. Looks nice too.

:) Colt SAA. 4 3/4" barrel. .45 Colt.

I have wanted one all my life. But as I got older and wiser things always got in the way.
I still want one, and I'll want it till I get it.

January 7, 2003, 06:24 PM
All time fave:

BAR, fun to shoot, mega-expensive to own. First thing on my "lookie here" list if I win the lotto.

Of my guns? My fave is probably a Pedersoli black powder double barrel 12 ga. shotgun, or one of my Colts. Hard to choose, I love 'em all.

January 7, 2003, 06:30 PM
Minigun machineguns and the fn p90 are two I would love to get my hands on.

January 7, 2003, 06:31 PM
1911. It just feels right. 2nd would be a Garand. Same reason.

January 7, 2003, 06:33 PM
Favorite that I've never seen and will probably never shoot? Selective fire BAR.

(wrings hands)

Gotta be a Trapper in .44 Mag

January 7, 2003, 07:11 PM
My favorite is a far cry from a fancy piece. My Dad gave it to me ,(that helps a bunch), I've hunted with it 40 years. Its a Savage mod. 24, .22/410 over and under. I'm 50 now and I'd rather hunt rabbits with it that any gun I own. I've killed more cans with it than I could haul off in my F-150, too.

January 7, 2003, 07:53 PM

...if Glock would just make a single-stack 10mm, it would probably be #2.

January 7, 2003, 08:14 PM
Well, of non-'my guns' two come to mind. A very low production Ruger Blackhawk in 44 Special. Not Magnum, a Special. And it's a Blackhawk, not a Super Blackhawk. Father in Law inheireted it from his brother when he passed on and wrote to Ruger asking about it's origins. At first, Ruger claimed that they never made one. With a little more information, they claimed that they did indeed build a few. This one was originally delivered to a Sheriff somewhere in Texas, in El Paso I believe. Great gun. Original finish, very worn but not abused at all. Lots of history, not sure if that's good or bad. His brother was in a lot of trouble with the law in various states in the Southwest. Funny thing is, I've never even shot it - it just seems that that would almost take away some of the mystique.

Second one is also property of the Father in Law and also a Ruger - No 1 Varmint in 22-250 with the stainless metal and dark gray laminated stock. Beautiful gun. Older V16 Weaver scope. Accurate as heck and excellent trigger.

Of my guns, I like my 700PSS and my Winchester 70 Coyote largely because if the scope on it. I've put a lot of rounds through my old Dan Wesson 22 and I'm currently infatuated with my Ishapore Enfield 2A but I guess my favorite is my Colt 1991A1 customized (WWII-ized, I call it) by Ned Christiansen.

January 7, 2003, 08:46 PM
My favorite has to be my Remington 870 express magnum.

January 7, 2003, 08:49 PM
My favorite gun that I own would be my Kimber series 1 Compact Stainless.

My favorite gun of all would be the M2HB Browning .50 cal Heavy Machine Gun. It is just such a complete rush to fire. We're talking mahogany here people.

Uncle Ethan
January 7, 2003, 09:05 PM
Did you ever fire a quad-fifty? It's as much fun as the old anti-aircraft pom-poms on shipboard.:D

January 7, 2003, 09:14 PM
G.E. Minigun. An Ironwood tree would snap like a pine board in comparison. Mahogany, is that all you got?:neener:

January 7, 2003, 10:22 PM
I don't know, it would have to be between either my AR or my Remington 700.

You decide for me pick your favorite out of the two, and I will go along with it.;)

January 7, 2003, 11:00 PM
We're talking mahogany here people.

:D :D :D :D :D

January 8, 2003, 12:56 AM
Easy. M1921 Thompson with the drum mags. Trench broom, room broom, street broom.

(And, its .45ACP!) :D

January 8, 2003, 01:46 AM
Lots I like, but ....

Rem 870 Express Magnum, 12 gauge, 21" bbl double bead vent ribbed Turkey

Has the screw-ins for everything doves/quail - to turkeys - to deer/elk & beyond. 3 shots with plug to extension for 8+

Won't argue the configuration, but the 12 pump has to be the most versatile thing out there.

Uncle Ethan
January 8, 2003, 11:37 AM
Good pick- I have one in LH configuration, and have bought several used barrels for it in various configurations- plus, you can shoot mag or 2-3/4 inch ammo. The single best source for used shotgun barrels I have found are the gun shops in Minnesota- each one has at least a dozen in various configurations for various shotguns.

January 8, 2003, 11:52 AM
This CZ! Good shooting:)

January 8, 2003, 12:24 PM
Did you ever fire a quad-fifty? It's as much fun as the old anti-aircraft pom-poms on shipboard.

Uncle Ethan. Never had the chance. They were phased out well before I joined the Marines. (89) Had the opportunity to sit in one though when I visited an old Marine buddy that lives in Minnesota. He's a member of a local military vehicle historical society. In their museum, they've got a WW2 M17 AA Halftrack with a quad fifty. Got to sit in the cupola surrounded by those 4 .50s. Just spent 10 minutes with a big sloppy grin on my face thinking what it must be like.

January 8, 2003, 12:34 PM
I would do well with one of these:

January 8, 2003, 12:43 PM
Right now my favorite is my Springfield Armory 1911A1 Mil-Spec, box stock except for aged ivory stocks. Pretty darn cool (if I say so myself). More accurate than I am and not 1 malfunction in over 1,000 rounds. The one I carry most is my S&W 642 Centennial (it just carries so easily in my front pants pocket w/ Uncle Mike's pocket holster).

Please don't let my other guns hear about this post. ;)

January 8, 2003, 01:06 PM
My Favorite gun...is one of my cheapest!

It used to be the No.4 Mk1 Lee Enfield..but now I seem to like my early "edition" SMLE repleat with windage adjustable rear sight. (It's missing the Volley Sights though..am going to have to rectify that and get a Pattern 1907 Sword Bayonet (with a hook quillion)).

Its odd..because I like the SMLE over M1A, M1 Garand, FAL, AR and AK in my collection.

The M1A does run a close second but it just doesn't quite have the same sense of history and confidence inspiring track record of reliability that an SMLE has.

Weird, eh?

Oh well..when in danger or in doubt..Remember Rule .303!

January 8, 2003, 01:22 PM
Kimber Ultra Carry

January 8, 2003, 02:28 PM
My S&W model 19 with 4 inch pipe. Pinned and recessed. Manufactured in 1964. I don't shoot it very much anymore but it is pure sweetness to handle and shoot.

January 8, 2003, 03:43 PM
Just a plain old M-16...I love shooting those.

Big Al
January 8, 2003, 03:48 PM
It would probably be a toss up between my lever action Browning 22LR, and my Glock 19. Both lots of fun and cheap to shoot.

January 8, 2003, 05:31 PM
What I used in the Army, an M14.

Piece of cake hitting half man-size automated targets from 50 to 300 meters on a timed course over iron sights.

And only took nine rounds to sight-in.

I felt very confident with the M14.

Bob A
January 8, 2003, 08:24 PM
a loaded gun.

January 8, 2003, 08:33 PM
Winchester model 52 sporter . Yep it is just a 22 bolt gun .

January 8, 2003, 08:49 PM
Favorite Gun :

Pistol: Torn between Walther P99 and 1911 Pattern Pistol
Submachine Gun: HK MP5
Rifle: Not much experience but the M16/M4 varients look cool
Shotgun: No experience at all, but based on looks: a 14" model by Scattergun Technologies. :)

January 8, 2003, 09:02 PM
although my M16A1 is a very close second.:D

January 8, 2003, 09:11 PM
Sig 228 followed closely by my stainless 92FS.

January 9, 2003, 02:16 AM
Hi Power, baby! :)

January 9, 2003, 03:05 AM
My M-1 Garand, due to the history behind it, and due to the fact that it has never failed me once.

January 9, 2003, 03:31 AM
M1 Garand. Probably a sentimental thing. I am a little of a history buff. Particularly WWII. Do I have one?

Colt 1911 Govt

Of course the AR15 ;)

January 9, 2003, 04:21 PM
My fathers model 11 in 20 ga.

January 9, 2003, 06:16 PM
Bostonterrier97-- I'm with you on the Enfield. Fired mine yesterday. The others were shooting ARs which are great but I still enjoyed the Enfield more.

My current favorite has changed to a Ruger MKII. A lot of bangs for the bucks!

Med 10
January 9, 2003, 06:58 PM
Glock 17.

January 9, 2003, 07:47 PM
My M-1 Garand.I like to shoot it till the wood smokes.

January 12, 2003, 05:13 PM
My favourite gun?
Out of those I have that must be my Glock 17L, because it's the first gun I bought and the first I called mine. :)
Out of those I do not have that must be the HK G3, because it's the first real gun I shot and the one I'd really like to own but probably never will. :(

January 12, 2003, 05:39 PM
Of those that I own. Gotta go with the 686. Something about a stainless steel wheel gun.

Dream gun?

January 12, 2003, 07:57 PM
Because I built it, came up with the custom wildcat chambering, and it's accuracy put me in the books one spring in 1999:

January 12, 2003, 08:20 PM
Hey T.Stahl,

Could you repeat that just one more time? I think that I am finally beginning to understand what you are trying to say.

Check out the other threads in the forums here at THR.

It's a computer glitch, there's a LOT of double-tap and triple-tap postings happening here today.

January 13, 2003, 07:35 AM
I'm sorry for that burst. It seemed that my Computer didn't send the reply, so I tried again and again and even checked the thread whether the reply arrived and deleted one superfluous reply, but still... :(
I deleted the other replies.

My favorite Rifle is my Jim Brockman custom Pre-'64 M70 Win in 30/06......MCmillain Griffin & Howe style stock set up for Ching Sling, QD scope mounts for 6x Swaroski, hidden back up ghost ring sights....shoots awesome and it has killed alot of game, racked up alot of memories.

Pistol, Wilson Combat Stealth built on an alloy frame.....but I've got a Heinie full size 1911 due sometime this year that might bump up to the top pistol slot.

Shotgun, BERETTA DT10 Sporting w/32" barrels. This is what get shot the most these days.....for just about all my shotgun needs[except turkey hunting].

January 13, 2003, 12:06 PM
My M1 Garand. My favorite because I always wanted one. After shooting it for the first time, just fell in love with it.
