CZ452 owners: any feed issues?

April 24, 2007, 11:10 PM
Hi ... I'm considering the CZ 452 Varminter .22 as a starter Silhouette rifle. Initially I was going to go with a Savage Arms because of the trigger. But I have heard that the Savage has a very steep feed ramp and tends to deform or shave lead on loading.

How is the CZ in terms of feeding? Anybody shoot groups for accuracy out of the magazine, or only doing single shot loading?

I have two 452s. Feeding is flawless. Be aware though many 452s exhibet a tendency to throw brass to the left every once in a while and working the bolt should be vigorous to the rear.

No problems at all with mine, unless I work the bolt slowly and then I occasionally have a casing fall back into the action.

Never a FEED error.

No feed issues, but I've often gone to single loading just because it was more convenient than pulling and reloading the magazine every five rounds.

Mine feeds great. With 5 or 10 round mags. One thing you don't do is dry fire the gun. That's all you have to be concerned with.

I dry fire my 452 whenever I'm done shooting. If you read the owner's manual you will see that it is the recommended way of uncocking this rifle. When I first got it I tried the old convential way of holding the trigger back and closing the bolt. It didn't feel right at all. Then I read the directions.

No feed issues whatsoever. The best .22 bolt gun for the money, bar none.

Never, after many thousands of rounds and several hundred squirrels.

There were some issues with CZ452s in .22WMR.

It was related to the magazine follower. I had that problem and adjusted both magazines according to the instructions in that link. No problems from then forward for a couple of hundred rounds.

Mine won't eject properly with 60 grain SSS ammo, which uses a short case. They will extract fine but without the case mouth being held inline by the chamber, the ejector won't kick them out of the action right, just spin them around.

It also won't feed CCI 40 grain subsonics easily - they have a particularly wide and blunt bullet that is larger than the throat so the bullet is being engraved by the rifling when you turn the bolt handle down the last quarter inch or so.

I have not had any problems with the feed ramp.

I store mine with the bolt out of it so it won't be cocked. It's not a defense gun so it's not a big deal for me to do.

Nope, no problems in .22, 22 magnum or .17HMR

Colibri (.22 Long) ammo feeds & ejects fine with stock 5-rounder, but has a feed prob with the CZ (plastic) 10-round mag.

.22 Long Rifle, on the other hand, works great in both.

Have not had any problems feeding with my .22 lr 452s. The ejection on my Special (Training) is a little weak. (.22 lr Scouts, American, and Varmint are OK. All 452.)

Have had problems with hollow pointed .17 HMR through both my .17 HMR 452 Varmint and (dad's) 453 American. Feed angle of the mag was not steep enough, Modded the follower as shown on RimfireCentral and they run fine now.

Zero problems with my 452 Lux in .22lr after tens of thousands of rounds. Never noticed any lead shavings on the feed ramp either.

The only feeding Issues I've had with a 452 has been keeping enough 22lr on hand to keep my rifle fed:D

Nm shooter;

There have been some feeding issues with the various CZ .22 rimfires. However, they seem to be particular to the magazines rather than the guns themselves.

If you go to rimfire central, the CZ forum, you'll find several threads that concern the problem & detail the fix. It's really no big problem & easily dealt with.
