Just bought my son a cz 513 to use in 4-H shooting. Out of the box accuracy is wonderful. But the trigger is TERRIBLE. Has a lot of travel. Any recommendations on how to fix it? Has anyone else had this problem? Solutions?

$14 Brooks trigger kit. See:

www.rimfirecentral.com, search the CZ forum

Has a lot of travel.

I take it you mean the creep.

The Brooks kit works for most guns. Unfortunately, the inserts are fixed thicknesses and you may have a trigger that would work best with something inbetween two thicknesses. You can, however, carefully grind or file the thicker insert to a better thickness to suit your needs.

For a better, but more costly, solution, IMO, I would suggest is an Automation Solutions adjustable sear. The adjustments are continuous so can be dailed in more precisely. About 5 times the cost of a Brooks, though.

Viking;

The third possible solution is the Timney aftermarket trigger. That's also detailed on the CZ forum at rimfire central.

The Brookes Kits only work on the CZ 452s. The 513 uses a simple leaf spring and wheel trigger. There is only a Timney replacement trigger available for the 452 models. Not the 513 Basic.

Some folks have posted trigger remedies on RFC (search in the CZ forum of RFC under "513"). They use shims cut out of aluminum cans to improve the pull. But, I would advise folks to leave the trigger alone unless they are very adept with gunsmithing and tools.

Another caution, the trigger spring retaining screw can work loose on its own and this will result in the sear not engaging the firing pin securely. Thus, when you close the bolt, the rifle will fire. :eek:

Local gunsmith tried to shim, but didn't have any luck.

Anyone know for sure if there is a replacement trigger option out there anywhere. Remember that this is not the same as a 452 trigger.
