Is the price still insanely high, or has it come down to more realistic levels?

The price is still "insane".

Depends on what you mean by "insanely" high. Most any high quality 1911 is going to run at least a grand, and if the quality, fit, and finish of the R-9 matches the prototypes, $945 is by no means "insanely" high.

My "always" companion is a P-32. It's never failed or even hiccuped, but the knowledge that a TFLer had the extension hammer spring break while it was in his pocket plus the possibility of rimlock not to mention the anemic .32 ACP round it fires do give me pause now and then. So I ask myself, "would a compression mainspring in a 9mm mouse gun make me feel $700 worth of better?" I have to answer, unequivocally, YES!

I'll wait until the price becomes "less insane"

And the bugs are "few and far between"

:)

Anyone know if this thing will shoot NATO, +P, or +P+ ammo?

As much as I respect Jeff OTMG and others who have been excited about the Rohrbaugh, the only way this thing could be more hyped (without any performance to go on save a year's delay in production) is . . . well, I can't find a hyperbole here (and I write for a living).

I sure hope they live up to it.

One man's reasonable is another man's insane... I'll wait till all you reasonable types buy up and QC the early samples... maybe by the time the production bugs are gone, the prices will come down as well. :D

Being it is a new design, however, I fear for the peace of mind of those for whom one report of a broken spring causes so much worry. :uhoh:

I don't find the price insanely high when compared to other pistols at retail. Look at SIG or H&K retail, the Rohrbaugh is in line with them and cheaper than a Rock River or Valtro 1911. It was about 6 years ago that Seecamps were actually bringing $750 and I have always thought that the Rohrbaugh resembled a Seecamp on steroids. Like 9x19, I feel that 'first kid on the block' price is a bit hard to swallow which is exactly the reason that I don't have a Kahr PM9 yet. They are finally down to $500, even saw one for $469 used.

I hope they live up to my expectations as well. I want one, but only if it is what it is suppose to be, a reliable, accurate, durable, pocket size, 12 oz, 9mm. It could take the place of my MK9 in an ankle holster, my P9 Covert in a pocket holster, or my Glock 27 in a x-draw.

Jeff, what happened to the pocket CZ? I got all excited about the 01 only to find it was NOT the gun I was waiting for. I though Mike said it was coming by now.

I'm not paying 1911 prices for a pocket nine, we'll have to see what the minimum production costs will be and I'll bet it's still high. :(

Thanks again for the good info. Bren

JeffOTMG,

Yep, there is often a world of difference between MSRP and over-the-counter prices... maybe that will be the case here.

The Seecamp was in a different world 6 years ago, as it really didn't have any competition. Once the Kel-Tec P-32, NAA, and Autauga changed that, prices fell fast and far.

I'll be content to read about and examine them for a time, just as I was when the Kel-Tec P-11 first came out. If they live up to the maker's claims... a year from now, I might start shopping for one.

Bren, this was my report from SHOT this year on the RAMI:
http://www.shotshowreports.com/2003pg2.html

Mike said May at the earliest, but since the gun was not introduced at the SHOT Show I don't think that it will ship until late this year making its' formal introduction at SHOT 2004 in Las Vegas, hopefully.

Keep in mind that the RAMI and the Rohrbaugh are not in the same class. The RAMI is all steel and is physically larger than a Roghrbaugh. It also weighs twice as much.

There's a large market for these in California so I hope Rohrbaugh can afford to ship a few to the CA DOJ for testing... otherwise, there goes 20% of their potential market, perhaps.

Fingers crossed,

I thought that Concealed Carry was a very difficult prospect for most citizens in California?

If so, why would 1/5 of Rohrbaughs market be in that state, since they are building a concealment pistol?

Sven, can you share your reasoning?

It is legal to pack inside your own home, in California. When I do so, I wish to carry in style - discreetly.

I also can apply for CCW in other states such as Flordia. When travelling, I can use this license in many states for CCW! What a great deal!

Forget the price, I don't want to own something that ugly.

Rohrbaughs are shipping next month.....right.

And I'm Santa Clause.

Could'nt resist a little good natured sarcasm. This little sucker's been coming since forever. Doubting Thomas sez he'll believe it when one gets plopped into his clammy little hands.

I'd love a small 9mm but for the price they want for a single Rohrbaugh, I could buy a small arsenal.

Also, I've made a career from being cheap and I'll probably opt for the Kel-Tec P-3AT for about 1/3 the price.

From Eric:

Good Morning,

Well, news gets around pretty quick I see. Yes, we have made
arrangements with a lab for the California certifications. When I have one
available for you, I'll contact you and we can talk about the options you
would want on your R-9 at that time. There is still no deposits required at
this time. Once I phone you and we begin the process, that is when I would
be asking for a deposit...not before then. Your order has been noted. Thank you.
Hope all is well and I'll be in contact with you soon.

Best Regards,

Eric C. Rohrbaugh

I got to play with the prototype. If the Rohrbaugh works as well as I think it will, then it will be worth the money.

I don't knock $1000 rifles or $1000 1911s. I don't see why I should knock a $800 pocket pistol. As for ugly. You carry it in your pocket. Who cares what it looks like as long as it works! Personally I think it looks like a pocket pistol.

It wasn't just me or Jeff that thought the Rohrbaugh was the gun of the show. Dr. Beretta though so too. :)
