Go to google and type in "ballistic gelatin" and manufacturer in the search line.
You'll get about a half dozen manufacturers.

I use Kind & Knox bought from local grocery stores (no Piggly Wigglys here : )
Make sure it is 100%, no additives.

Ballistic Gel is the same as Jello, basically. It is just mixed in different proportions and with out the fruit flavoring.
I do recommmend using some coloring in the Gel when making it. One can learn a lot about what kind of mess you make when you shooot someone and how far that mess will go.
Recipe (http://www.vyse.com/gelatin_for_ballistic_testing.htm)
Another one (http://www.handgunsmag.com/ammunition/fodder_fact_finding/index1.html)
I've always mixed it up and poured it into 1 gallon plastic milk jugs. They're not big enough to capture the bullet but they do explode nicely when shot with 00 & slugs. I've shot them with just about every variety of firearm I could obtain. Not sceintfic by any means. Just fun.

Anyone here actually mixed up a tub of the stuff and shot it? How much Jello do you need?
And does the fruit flavoring have any effect?

Search the web before heading off to your local supermarket. There are food supply companies that sell powdered gelatin in bulk for a fraction of the cost (by weight) that you will be paying for consumer-boxed gelatin.

A few times (just a hobby)

The ratio is roughly 1 pound of gelatin powder per gallon of water. Estimate amount needed by filling molds with water. Make extra to add in during remelts (you will lose some gelatin)

Hey GoldenLoki!
I surfed your site...the only thing wrong with it is the refrigerator. You 'claim' that is where you cool your gelatin...but it looks like it is full of beer to me!
:D
Seriously, nice work! I was especially interested in the .22lr data cuz I live in the 'burbs. The squirrels are a problem but the neighbors get all nervous when I head out into the yard with my Winchester rifle blazing away. I was looking for something in the sub-sonic range that would still splatter those tree rats!
