cslinger posted this in the general discussion. I thought it was worth mentioning here.................... Let me know if you find them :DIn case it matters to anybody Wally World is now selling 100 round bulk packs of 230 grain .45 ACP FMJ USA ammo. I kept hearing rumors of .40 S&W bulk packs but .45 ACP threw me for a loop. Anyway it is $19.97 per 100 rounds. That is pretty cheap for factory .45 ammo. Hope this brings joy to some of your days.

Not bad, the 9mm is pretty good but I do prefer shooting copper. I'll stop by and see if they have any in my area. Thanks Bren

sweeeeeeet.

I buy my 9mm at wally world and I hate going elsewhere to buy .45 (when I don't have time to load some myself). Its usually $15/50 there.

The ammo is good. Winchester white box .45 is true
hardball-spec. The brass is also very good, and will
last for many reloads.

Hello,

As luck would have it, I just got back from Walmart and decided to do the internet thing.

My local Walmart had the usual 9mm value packs, and right below them on the shelf they also had both .45 & .40 S&W on the shelf. If I remember the prices correctly they were as follows...

.45 $19.97 for 100 rounds.
.40 $20.97 for 100 rounds.

The .45 was 230 grain, but I didn't notice what weight the .40 was...I don't own a .40...yet. :)

Good shooting,
Jeff C.

I appreciate the heads-up! I've sure shot a pile of their 9mm.

I probably don't need any for a while, though: my wife tells me that my newest case of Blazer .45 from Natchez ($7.80 a box this month) just arrived. Gonna be a fun weekend!

I couldn't find it at the local Walmart and was told that no Walmart in the US should have it yet. The guy told me they are one of the first to get anything new Walmart carries and they don't expect it until a month or two from now at the earliest. Maybe he should talk to a few guys here. When I get a chance I'll try a few other nearby Walmarts.

I have found the 100 pk 9mm at Sport's Authority as well. May be worth a look there for the .45 too.

Nice to have a cheap local source for .45. Will have to check when I get a chance.

I took 2 people to the range to shoot tonight for the first time. So I was definately in need of ammo. The walmart I went to here in Columbus had the 9mnm, .40 and .45 value packs. The .40sw ammo was 165 grain.

The valuepack .45 ammo was pretty good quality. It definately shoots better than the UMC also sold at walmart for $15/50.

This stuff will definately do for those times when I don't have any reloads stockpiled. Now if they'd just drop the price down to like $17/100 I'd be a happy camper.

Dangit, my Wal-Mart doesn't even have the 9mm value packs 90% of the time. Never seen the .40 pack, should I even bother trying for the .45 pack? :cuss:

And my Sports Authority is so far away, I might as well pay for shipping since gas is so expensive.

I just saw the boxes of .45ACP and .40S&W tonight at my local wally. $19.97 for the .45, and $14.96 for the .40, and as usual $10.96 for the 9mm. The .45 is copper jacketed, the .40 is brass (like the 9mm). I was told it's no problem to order a case at a time, just gotta talk to the sporting goods manager.

Also have started to see the 9mm packs for 10.96 (sometimes 1-2 bucks more) at other stores than walmart. This is really making me wish I had more than .22's. Next thing we need is .380ACP in the 100 pack. :D

ALL ammo, firearms, etc are gone. When I asked, they said it was done for business reasons...few people bought and some complained.

davidtdm: only thing i could've suggested would have been to have one of each shell sitting out, so people can see that the 9 and .40 are brass, the .45 is copper, and that the .40 has the flat tip.

Doesn't it say "Made in USA"? I wouldn't call that "USA brand", i'd say WWB. Unless you refer to Wolf as "russian brand". Oh well, just my opinion.

Uh, no, the .45 is also brass.

Copper hasn't been used for anything other than rimfire cases for 100 years or more.

I used to get the run around at my local Walmart when looking for the value packs.

I finally met the lady that does ALL of the ordering for sporting goods. She said that if I know I will need a certain quantity of any ammo to just give her a call and she would make sure they had enough on hand for me. She said they get the ammo 2-3 days after they place the order.

She also said that she was more than happy to order it in anytime I needed some. I asked if I could get any further price break if I ordered case amounts...no go. She did give me a card with her name and number on it.

I believe that they (Walmart) don't want to sit on ammo that won't move so some stores don't order it. I would (and did) find out WHO does the ordering at your local store, and tell them that you want to buy (insert amount) rounds per week/month. They do have to order by case amount so they may not want to sit on 900 rounds because one person wanted one box.

I always buy at least 3-4 boxes each trip, but now that they have .45 value boxes I'm going to have to bring more money to Walmart. It's going to end up costing me $100.00 each trip to the store, but I'll end up with 6-700 rounds of ammo so I'm happy.

Good shooting,
Jeff C.

Sorry, I meant the FMJ on the bullet. At least it looks like brass....it's the same color as the casing, wheras the .45 is definitly copper colored. Maybe the 9mm and .40 are brass plated copper.

blue86buick,

Winchester has called this stuff "USA" brand since it came out with it in the '80s. They still call it that:

http://www.winchester.com/ammunition/store/cfhlist.aspx?cartlist=bm9uZQ==&uselist=none&brandlist=5&bullettype=none

This includes the "Value Packs":

http://www.winchester.com/ammunition/store/cfhproductsheet.aspx?symbol=USA9MMVP&qrystr=Y2FydGxpc3QrQUQwLWJtOXVaUStBQ1UtM2QrQUNVLTNkK0FDWS11c2VsaXN0K0FEMC1ub25lK0FDWS1icmFuZGxpc3QrQUQwLTUrQUNZLWJ1bGxldHR5cGUrQUQwLW5vbmU=

It seems that just about everyone with a location listed who has found the .40 and .45 value packs are in Ohio or Tennessee (and those in OH seem to be in or around Cincinnati). They are close enough that maybe they are distributed out of the same location. Anyone here whose local Walmart has the stuff yet live anywhere other than TN, KY or southern OH? I visited the Lexington Park, MD store and snagged 3 boxes at $19.97 each (the sales lady said there was a lot in the back of the display case, but I couldnt see exactly how many due to the angles), but the register brought up a message along the lines of 'Over Flr Limit, approve?' when the clerk scanned all three. She didnt know what that meant and thought it was my credit card (which took like 2 minutes to approve, we were having internet problems at my work all day) being over the limit, but I'm no where close. I guess the max is one or two value-packs per customer.
They also had .40, but I didnt see any 9mm value packs.

This is also one of the Super Walmarts, with an eye doctor, pharmacy, etc; I think their manager's pretty gun friendly (or at least realizes being 5 miles from a Naval base means he could sell lots of guns & ammo) because the gun and ammo displays are always 100% stocked unlike the Walmart near my house where 50% of the time you gotta wait for stuff to be brought out from the back.

Hard to find folks at the gun counter at Wal-Mart here in California. See... uh... Wal-Mart employees made a few _mistakes_ in paperwork and such and... now Wal-Mart sells no shotguns or rifles anymore. Nada.

The sign posted said that their employees were taking classes to learn the process... like they will be back - typical Public Relations bull kaka ... the "MAN" just won another one here in California, land of the fruits and nuts (and some pro-rkba types, too).

Seems as if my local SA likes give Wally a fit by meeting their price. He actually called once in my presence and cut the price .50 less than WW;)

I'd rather just run in and out and avoid the crowd/parking.

So I'd suggest others check with their local SA and see if they'll do the same. If its closer and you hate to shop like me.

Cool guys, lets keep buying it up so they'll keep packaging it this way. Maybe we should start an email campaign to get some value-packs in revolver calibers as well. :D

BTW, I looked at the rounds and they look like the "regular" Win White Box stuff in .45acp. In the 9mm value packs the rounds are packaged loose, the bullet is a slightly different shape than the regular White Box stuff and the jacket is a brass color instead of copper color. The .45acp value pack rounds are the same shape and color as the regular stuff and instead of being packaged loose like the 9mm value pack it was packed in two 50 round trays like the 50 round boxes.

Walther P99: which one did you find them at? I'm not too far from you. The one near me is being remodeled and no one seems to know much in the ammo section.

G'day denfoote and et al.,

I picked up a couple of those bulk target packs in 45 ACP at the SV AZ Wally World last week. Got out to range late in the weekend to try them out in several of my launchers. Shoot great, less costly! Two thumbs up! Brass appears to be good for a few reload cycles. As clean as the 9x19mm target loads from Winchester. Consistency is pretty good too!

In my case, I had to be assertive with the Wally World associate. When I inquired about the target packs, I got the deer in the head lights look. I asked him to open the case where the 9x19 bulk packs were and then there right next to the 40 SW was a large hole with the shelf tag. The ole guy was going to put a good moan and groan to bend all the way down, stick his arm way back there to lift those heavy boxes...... It did take a bit of persuasion to get the transaction going and completed.

It would have been simplier if I could just go back there and get them myself but that would probably be considered bad form by Wally World mgmt. Hey, at least now I'm not so concerned about finding a way to replace all that brass I'm losing at these local pistol matches!

Best of luck to you and others getting this ammo! Cheers!

My local SoKal Walmart finally got this ammo in stock this morning. I was lucky enough to be there just as they were unpacking the boxes and grabbed all the 45acp (2 cases) that they had. The Sporting Goods Manager told me that it's a "warehouse item" which means that it's not regularly stocked but can be ordered and will arrive in 2-3 days. As I was leaving I asked him to please order more. :)

Grayrock: I went to the one at 1604 & Nacogdoches (FM 2252). The people at this one seem fairly knowledgable.

Well, the Wal Mart's in my area (Nashville TN and surrounding) seem to have them but not in quantity. I haven't found more than 2 boxes at any one store. When I asked the kid behind the counter he said he couldn't order more because he isn't a manager and didn't know if they were getting more. So I asked him to ask his manager to order more. Don't forget people, Wal Mart is there to make money and lots of it. If we buy them out and ask for more, they'll get more.

Hit one of my local WMs yesterday but they had only 2 boxes. I got them.
Came home and inspected them.

Like the 9mm BP the primers are different shades. The 9mm is otherwise cosmetically beauty but the 45 has some variation. Some slugs have rings around them. Some are perfect.

Makes no diff to me at the price. It's a pretty good deal if you reload.
Now I can get 9mm and 45 bulk packs at the same shop. Good news. Not too sure it makes sense paying the shipping or the admission to a gunshow anymore if buying these cals is the reason. WM is less of a drive and I only have to pay sales tax and OTD.
Thanks to the original THR members that posted the alert.

If you're in the Greenville area, you can get 100rnd packs at WM Woodruff Rd and Hwy 29 Taylors. A call to WM Whitehorse Rd showed nothing in stock but 9mm, but the guy I spoke to went through the trouble to call the other stores and inquire for me (very thoughtful/professional/impressive). I bought two of the three boxes at Woodruff Rd and will be back as soon as their next shipment comes in.

$10/50rnd is as good as I got at the last gunshow where I bought 1000rnd for $212 from Georgia Arms. And while some on-line suppliers sell a case for $180-200, shipping costs boost the final figure to around the same as you could get locally at Wal-Mart.

The funniest thing is that joker down in Greenwood offering to sell me a case of Blazer 230g FMJ for $190! That guy sucks...big.

Anyone know how the Wolf brand ammo compares to the Winchester whitebox? Both are 230 grain FMJ. Sportsman's Guide has Wolf .45 ACP for $45.96 for 250. With shipping and handling it comes out to $18.38 per 100. That saves $3.24 per 100 compared to WallyWorld and it comes to my door. I just have to wait a little longer to get it.

Stay away from Wolf.

Stay far away...

The main comments I read here relate to the fact Wolf has a steel case and may cause a bit of accelerated wear on the extractor and ejector. Maybe the chamber too.
I don't know if the 45 acp is laquered but some of their rifle ammo is and some THRers have reported problems with the coating building up in the chamber under certain conditions in some rifles. AK owners do not report this problem.

All I can say for sure is the powder the Russians load into their Woldf ammo is stinky IMO having been around people at the range that were shooting it.
There sure seems to be an aweful lot of Wolf empties on the ground at the ranges I go to so some people must like it pretty well.

Good luck

I.R. Wolf Ammo: You'll never have to worry about using the words "accurate" or "clean-burning" to describe it. It's almost like shooting black powder through my 1911 when I last tried the .45ACP. While I have a Ruger 9mm which will shoot anything, I'm still not going to try Wolf in it.

S&B, Winchester, or UMC is a much better choice...

Finally in the farthest Wal Mart from me, but still technically in town. And less tax out there... so I guess it is out of the city... And they had some clearance .38 Spec Hydra Shoks. I wonder why they are on clearance? And thanks to low price and less tax, best non online and non gun show option there is.

That's all I got at Wal Mart though, I did the rest of my shopping at Best Buy, Le Femme Nikita and Terminator Special Edition, woo hoo.
