i recently bought a walther P99 from another member here. always wanted one to go with my PP and P38. i never paid much attention before i made the purchase and now i need to be enlightened.
what is meant by QA (quick Action) ? is it smoother, shorter, etc?...when i dry fired it before buying, i noticed the DA is quite long but the reset is very short on the SA.
also just wondering...were there pre-ban 9mm mags? how much are 10 round mec-gars and where is the cheapest place to get them?
thanks for all the help

there are prebans for them. about $70
i found some 10rd mags on the Walther forum for $20 each, but i think shops are asking around $40.
QA is similar to the Glock trigger and non a SA/DA type of trigger.
search for Dr. Lunde and look for his Walther FAQ.

BTW. the Aug/Sep issue of G&A Handguns has a comparison between the P99 annd SW99 in n.40S&W. end result, the P99 shot an average of 2.4" and the SW99 3.18". the P99 had small groups under 2" fro all ammo tested. the SW99 had only 1 group that was under 2". verdict, spend the extra $ on the P99.

I have a QA. Like a Glock you have to rack the slide to cock the gun. Since there is no DA trigger all shots are the same, there is no heavy/heavier first shot. The trigger is supposed to be shorter than the DA/SA model but I hear that the reset isn't as fast. I've never shot the SA/DA version but most owners will tell you that the SA trigger is among the best in its class after break in.

P99 DA/SA =
DA trigger travel/takeup is 0.6" and breaks @ about 9lbs.
SA trigger travel/takeup is 0.63" on first shot and 0.35" on second shot and always breaks @ about 5.5 lbs
P99 QA =
trigger travel/takeup is always 0.24" and always breaks @ about 7 lbs.

If you bought the 9mm version, you can use P99 40S&W mags to hold 13-14 rounds of 9mm. They are identical to the 9mm mags in every way except for the follower which was modified so they could only take 10 rounds of 40S&W. No worry, though, because 9mm feeds and functions perfectly from them. :)

Interesting, Never tried the .40 mags in my P99 9mm (don't know anyone at the club with the P99 .40).
I just use the 10 rndrs mostly.
I thought that I saw a post on the Walther forums indicating using the .40 mags with 9mm rnds jammed for them.
Well, if it works for you, great!

Another member here pointed me to Kieslers when I asked about mags. That place seems to have the best prices that I have seen so far. I ordered two from there myself and recieved them in about 6 days. Both work great!
