Hello once again everybody. I have been wanting to take advantage of the cheap stocks of 5.45x39 that seem to be everywhere right now, so I decided its time to get another AK type rifle. I have had other AK pattern rifles, and was less than impressed with them. This time I want to try something a little better. I am looking for a VEPR in 5.45x39 but have had no luck in finding one. Does anybody know where to locate one, and also will it take standard AK74 mags? I don't want a Sagia since I want the "evil features" without the trouble of a conversion.

VEPRs aren't being imported right now. I'm not sure what the problem is. The distributor blames the exporter if I remember right. Anyway, they're hard to find and pricey. A Saiga and conversion might end up working out better unless you're prepared to shell out fat money for a VEPR.

But does Sagia produce a rifle in 5.45x39? I am having a hard time finding any information on them.

I'm not sure actually. I know they make a .223 and a 7.62x39, so I assume they'd make the 5.45x39. I wish the VEPRs were available also. I've wanted one for a long time and I absolutely love the Super VEPR. I shot one at the range a couple of different times. Amazing gun and surprisingly accurate for what it is. Easily held sub MOA the entire session using good handloads. You might check atlanticfirearms.com. They usually have a good selection.

I have the VEPRk in 7.62x39 and had thought about selling it once in the past. But then I read about how hard they were to get now a days and just decided to hang onto it. I can't believe that they can't get them into the country now. It's an amazing rifle, but I never really shoot mine. If I ever decide to actually sell it I'll let you know.

I believe Corriea commented a while back that the Vepr manufacturer was bought out. The new importer is wanting to charge a bit more for them and/or put some conditions on the sellers. I believe he stated that they chose not to sell them. I have no idea if anyone else will be selling them.

Geojap, while I appreciate the thought but my whole intention for buying one is to have a platform to shoot the 5.45x39 from. It seems to be the best deal on center fire rifle ammo out there, and a tad more accurate than 7.62x39. I want the VEPR (or perhaps a Sagia) due to the quality that is not present in run of the mill AKs.

I also love the Super Veprs.

I have to agree Glockfan. If the same rifle were available, I would likely buy at least one more. I got my 7.62 Vepr not too long before the supply dried up and I am very glad I did. It is a tough and reliable rifle even if it is a bit heavier than others.
