Any you DON'T want?

Are there any guns out there you just don't want? That you'd give away, or sell, if you got one for free? Not necessarily "junk brands", either. Are there any quality guns you simply dislike?
There are a few.
Just about any Glock in 9mm, .40, or .357 Sig. I'd keep a 21 only so I could get a 10mm slide and convert it.
Walther PPK, for another. Neat, I guess, but I wouldn't keep it.
Beretta 96.
Just about ANY double action only autoloader, except for the Kahrs.
One of those $15,000.00 Italian over and under shotguns. Too rich for my blood. I'd sell it to a premium dealer and use the money for a multitude of other things.
Armalite AR-10.
Just about ANY AR-15. I've had two and don't really want a 3rd. I'd give it away, or sell it.
That's all I can think of for now...

I have never cared for Weatherby rifles.
I have an occasional urge to buy a Glock but, so far, have resisted. If they had Glock Shooting Sports Foundation matches here I'd hold my nose and get one for that.
After shooting one, I found I wasn't much impressed with a Smith M76 subgun. I've shot several others I'd rather own.
Otherwise I can find a reason to own just about anything legal.

Lots of them I don't want, thank goodness.
(What do you mean no AR-10?)
Don't want;
Glock
Baretta (sp?)
Hi Point
Any of those semi-1911 clones that sort of look like one but have nothing in common with a 1911.
Anything made by KelTec.
Lots of various bolt rifles.
Sig Saur pistols
Most C+R firearms
The list is actually quite a bit longer than this, which is a blessing. All the guns I do want form a list formidable enough as it is.

Well, I haven't found a 40 S&W pistol I liked, so I'd write those off. As for manufacturers....out side of the obvious contenders of questionable quality, none come to mine.

I have no desire to own any of the full-size Berettas, or the Cougars. The big H&K USPs don't do much for me, either, although the compacts are nice. I don't like the mini Glocks, but I do like the full-size and compacts. Don't want any of the Ruger centerfire autoloaders, either.

I've never sold a gun, and doubt I ever will. Here are the guns, I can think of that I wouldn't spend money on:
HK and Sig handguns: I actually have a couple of these, but the money could have been better spent. I consider these to be overpriced and over-gageted.
S&W and Ruger Autos: With the exception of the S&W 1911 and the Ruger MkII, they should have stuck with revolvers.
Just about any Colt gun: Again, I have several of these. I'd rather have a S&W revolver, a Kimber 1911, or a Bushmaster AR. I do like my Anaconda, though.
Beretta Handguns: A slide mounted safety? Come on...
Ruger Mini-14: The AR is more accurate, and the M1A more powerful.
Benelli M3: Great for LEOs and their less-lethal goodies, but their questionable track record makes them less than desirable for the more-lethal rounds I prefer.
Benelli M4: Sure, I bet that it's "revolutionary" gas system is fantastic, but just as I won't buy a "post-ban" AR with a pinned open collapsable stock, I can't bring myself to buy the M4 with it's faux collapsable stock. I'll keep my M1S90, thanks.
Mateba: An interesting concept, with many advantages, but I'd get tired of explaining why a normal revolver wouldn't do.
Any weapon of questionable quality, and/or questionable asthetics.:D
Any pistol smaller than a 9mm: I can hide my Glock 27 in just about any type of clothing, I don't need anything smaller. The .22LR doesn't count.
Most 9mm pistols.
Any DAO auto.

Smith and Wesson Autos...no reason to buy one since they stopped the 10XX series.
Berettas in General....they're neat, but I wouldn't spend money on one.
Anything in .25.
Kimbers and Springfield "Loaded" 1911A1s.
Just about any "custom" 1911 unless it was acutally a custom gun built specifically to my taste; you can get nearly ANY "custom" feature on a stock factory gun these days, probably for less money. This includes things like front serrations (:barf: ), commander hammers (eh..have their uses, but I don't like they way they look), beveled magazine wells, etc.
Benelli M3, M4.

some fancy smansy .22 target rifle
id sell it and buy some way cooler toys that make louder booms
a 28 gauge shotgun (come on, Id like to be able to buy shotgun ammo wherever I go) - no offense to anyone who owns and loves a 28 gauge shotgun :D
single action cowboy action revolvers....not into the sport of CAS, looks cool, just not for me right now

I tend to buy/shoot more .45's than anything else.

Any post 2000 Smith & Wesson.
Any Smith & Wesson semi-automatic, of any vintage.
Any Colt revolver with the possible exception of a New Service.
Any AMT product.
An HK USP.
A SIG 239.
All I can think of right now.

Guns designed exclusively for bench rest competition shooting hold absolutely no interest for me.
Same goes for those super-expensive Italian shotguns.
Super-accurate target .22's will also never be on my list.
And I am no fan of most (but not all) derringers and very small handguns.

Of the big names it would be, Glock, but only because they feel clunky in my hands. I have fired a few and they performed flawlessly. I might check out one of the newer 17's to see if it feels any better and my outlook might change.

This is a tough question. There are many firearms I would not spend money on... and a few that if I was given one, I would sell to get something else.
But if the question can be rephrased as "If you were given one of EVERY gun, is there one that you wouldn't keep?" Then I would have to say no. Guess I'd have to rent an aircraft hanger or three.

Most Rugers. Can't think of one I would want that something else couldn't do better.
Wouldn't want a Vaquero when I could have a Colt or USFA.
Wouldn't want a Mini 14.
Wouldn't want a Ruger 77 when I could have a Remington or Browning.
Wouldn't take a GP100 when I could have an S&W 586.
Nope, can't think of a Ruger I would keep for free. No flame for Ruger lovers out there. They just don't do anything for me.
Most C&R rifles I wouldn't take for free. If I got a Mauser 98k or Moison-Nagant or Ariska, I would give it to somebody who wanted it.

For me, it would pretty much end with the cheapo brands like Jennings, Lorcin etc...
I have absolutely no desire to buy a Ruger centerfire pistol, but would keep one if given to me.
Mr. Irwin, may I ask why the Sig 239 is on your list? Does it not fit your hand well or something? I know the one I tried at the range fit my (admittedly) small hands very well and did not have any malfunctions during the nearly 200 rounds I put through it. It seemed like a quality piece and a great ccw gun (not that such a thing matters here in Md.).

Museum quality presentation gun with engraving, gold inlays, relief carving. Can't afford to keep one of those and I'd rather have a shooter. BTW, there's a show coming up in Minneapolis this July that has nothing but presentation guns. It was the talk of the guys at the gun building seminar I went to earlier this month.
Give me a humble Rem 700 or Win M70 that can be carried in the field. Give me the Sig or Colt 45 that can be scratched. Give me the 22 that I don't mind handing to a buddy with acid hands.

I don't think I could really give a gun away. I might sell one if I had to. But I would never buy an engraved gun, especially a shotgun. I just don't like engraving I know it looks good and it takes time and effort but I couldn't own a shotgun if I would be to afraid to hurt it. The same for a rifle. If I can't use it then I don't want it.
I guess to sum it up. If I can't use it then I don't want it.

There are tons of guns I have no interest in owning but I will list the ones that I have owned and sold because I wasn't happy with them.
1. Jennings J-22
2. Taurus PT-22
3. Raven .25acp
4. Remington Nylon .22 model 66
5. Ruger 10/22
6. CZ-40
7. Hi-Point 9mm Carbin
8. Springfield Longslide .45acp
9. Ruger P-89
10. S&W 59 9mm
11. FEG DA BHP clone (reminded me too much of a S&W 59:D )
12. Tec-9
13. Glock 21
There are more but I can't think of them right now. None of the above held any special place in my heart for various reasons. Some I liked more than others but I don't miss any of them.

+Any Glock (because it doesn't feel right in the grip)
+Undesirably expensive over-and-unders
+Almost any revolver (not my style)
+Mini Derringers (any gun that small has no real use except as a classy toy, IMO...especially the ones that are designed to fit on a belt buckle)
+Any chrome/ gold plating (save it for something else)
+The infamous Grease Gun
+Any gun that has either outlived its usefulness (not many have, mind you) or is otherwise impractical (spend more time cleaning/ repairing than shooting, etc.)
Mind you, though,
But if the question can be rephrased as "If you were given one of EVERY gun, is there one that you wouldn't keep?" Then I would have to say no. Guess I'd have to rent an aircraft hanger or three.

Just about any full auto is honestly way down on my list of wants and desires. Too expensive, too much hassle to aquire, too much risk of theft, too expensive to feed,,
Mind you, I'm not in any way shape or form against anyone owning one. There was a time when I wanted a Thompson more than anything else, and scrimped and saved for one. The money always disappeared towards other more pressing needs though.
Now that I can afford one, and live in a city which I'm told would be no problem having the CLEO sign off on,,,,I just don't want one anymore.
Go figure. Tastes change I reckon.

No commemoritives, Franklin Mints, Super duper smith customs which crank out 1500 to 3000 dollar pistols ( thats mostly have to have a pit crew to keep it running between strings), parts guns, almost anything non production is a waste to me.
Give me production model and a pile of ammo to make up for the 400 dollar triggers, satillite links, whistle & bells.
Maybe if they were given to me for free. But if someone plops a 3000 pistol in my hand, I'd likely sell it and get 5 or so production models of the same gun, along those lines.

I'll pass on high-end 1911s (Wilson Combat, Charles Daly, etc). They are well constructed, but they don't function. I have seen a few show up on our range, and they all failed to function within the first 50 rounds. Nice triggers, though.
I would throw away lightweight .357s, but only after I got rid of a S&W scandium .44 magnum.
Anything in .25 or .32
Anything in .40S&W or .357sig. There's nothing wrong with the cartridge, but I haven't seen a gun that can handle them properly. It will take 10 more years before the kinks are worked out.

While they're all more or less interesting to me, I find myself at gun shows strolling past all the handguns except S&W revolvers and 1911's these days. S&W's because I collect them, and 1911's because they're such fun canvases to paint on. I used to get all cranked up over GlockBerettaHKSIGKahrRugers, but I seem to have drifted into the "If you've seen one mass-produced service auto, you've seen 'em all" camp.
With rifles, I have all the FBPP's I'll ever need, so I spend most of my time looking for funky old milsurps these days. (Although I suppose I need an AR, if only on general principle...)

I have no interest in any centerfire revolver firing a cartridge less powerful than a .38 Special, or any pistol of less power than 9mm Luger. I also have no interest in any wildcat rifle calibers, or any shotgun gauge other than 10,12 and 20. I have very little interest in lever action rifles for some reason (though I own one). I have no interest in any rimfire other than the .22lr, and cartridges that can be shot in that chamber.

Been thinking...I generally don't like Poly framed guns. I mean, a few strike me as neat (the Springfield XD, as it fits my hand superbly, and the Glock 20, my fascination with which is based entirely on the round it fires). I don't know what it is, but I prefer metal in my hands.
Been meaning to get a .357 someday, but for the most part, I like big bore revolvers (my two are in .45 Colt and .41 Magnum).
I tend to dislike guns that are "pedestrian" to my mind. That is, guns that you see all the time and that everybody has. Like Glocks. Or 1911s made by Springfield or Kimber with front serrations and such. Or AR-15s.
Colt 1911s aren't seen nearly so much anymore, so I own one. I also have a CZ-97; you don't see many of those around. My rifle choice is a FAL, which in the US is far overshadowed typically by ARs and M14 clones, though I prefer it to either. In revolvers, I like Smiths (and am interested in Rugers), but prefer calibers less common than .357 and .44.

Aside from the obvious cheapies, I'll have to decline buying:
Berettas- Long trigger pull and Uncle Sugar burned me on them.
Sigs- great pistols, but not left hander friendly.
Any Smith & Worthless or Ruger auto pistol. Exceptions- SW1911, Ruger 22/45.
Post agreement Smith & Worthless revolvers.
Any rifle caliber that wears a belt except mebbe .350 Rem Mag,
Hey Remington if you can put a left hand bolt on that cute little 673 and lose that rib...............
Anything too pretty, shiney, expensive, yada, yada, yada....to take out in the toolies and get dinged up.
Scopes that cost more than the rifle they're sitting on.
In-line muzzleloaders and calling the act of firing them "blackpowder shooting" or primitive weapons. Although a Savage ML-10II could come in handy one day as a SHTF survival rifle.

Any .50 BMG rifle.
Why? Where and when would I shoot it? The nearest rifle range is a 30 minute drive away. How would I get it there? I drive a tiny 2-seat roadster.
If I lived out in the wide open spaces someplace, or even if I drove a larger vehicle and went to the rifle range more often, maybe, but in my present circumstances that'd be one super-expensive cobweb collecting device.

In-line muzzleloaders (yes I have one, even shot a deer with it, but after giving it a fair shake, I can't see how these fit the concept of primitive).

Guns I'm not interested in at all (Don't get me wrong, if given to me, I'd keep them long enough to sell them):

Ruger rimfires
Centerfires smaller than 9mm
The only guns that there is even a remote chance that I will specifically attempt to purchase in the next couple of years:
Kadet kit for CZ 75
Walther P99
CZ compact decocker
Everything else I would not specifically save or search for but if stumbled on for the right price (like my (former) Ruger P-89 with 2 hi-caps for $150), might be purchased for trade bait or maybe even kept if it was real fun to shoot.

Your Kahr K9's, your S&W Model 41 and 52 autoloaders, your C&R toggletop Lugers, 94-96-98 Mausers, turnbolt Mannlichers, Schmidt-Rubins, Lee-Enfields, U.S. Enfields, Krags, Springfields, Garands, your Norinco 1911's, Ruger 10/22's and #1's, Tikka 595's, and various John Moses Browning designs, for they may find shelter in my humble abode.
But there's no room at the inn for Grendels, Glocks, Kel-Tecs, Sigmas, or other such autoloading pistols constructed from the products of the oil well and refinery cracking tower. Same goes for the Remington 710, Benelli plastic shotguns, and the whole tactical plastical H&K family. Might be a CETME or HK-91/G3 in my future, once I make up or buy a batch of non-reloadable .308. But that SLB-2000 is just butt-ugly. (See John Moses Browning reference, above) And, since I qualify with a Beretta M9 (aka 92) each year, I've found another reason to be glad to retire in a couple years - I won't have to handle one anymore. :D
(That's probably gonna hurt Skunk's feelings, the bit about the H&K's, and Beretta)

In line muzzle loaders don't do a thing for me.
Bolt action handguns like the XP-100 do nothing for me.
Full-sized derringers do nothing at all for me.
"Wannabe" guns, with fake suppressors (flash or sound), fake extended magazines, fake heat guards, fake selector switches, bayonet lugs, lasers, night scopes, etc... --they don't even begin to jingle my bells. Likewise non-firing replica guns.
I'm just not interested in hanging extra gadgets on a pistol. IPSC rigs, raceguns with ports and weights and glass and perhaps lights-- they do NOT inspire any interest in me.
But gimme a hard-working repeater pistol, a work of art tack-driving rifle, a rugged working warhorse rifle/carbine/pistol, a handy saddle or truck carbine, a reliable well-fitting shotgun, a lovingly-reproduced old-style muzzleloader, a fine target pistol or rifle, a fun rimfire, a beauty of a barbecue gun, a fine revolver, or a classic practical hunting rig, and watch my eyes light up. Truth be told, the ones I like or love are in the vast majority. :)

I would be hard pressed to sell any gun that was given to me for free, even if it became a safe queen. Unless is was a Beretta, I just don't like them.
Anything else I would keep unless I already had one or it was a real POS.

Glocks, S&W autos, Hi-points, Mini-14's, and muzzleloaders all do nothing for me.

Any Sig (shot several and just was not impressed)

Any DAO semi-auto (build an idiot proof gun and better idiots emerge)
Anything with Tactical on it (no need in hanging everything including spare pair of pants off the front of firearms)
No handgun with ports (if it's that hard to controll get a weaker cartridge)

Guns I really HATE:
Ruger and S&W autopistols, Nagant-revolver M1895, all Taurus firearms, NORINCO guns, the FN Hi-Power, ALL french firearms ever made, the various Krag-Joergensen rifles, the Mannlicher-Carcano M1891 and M1938 rifles, the Ross rifle and the US M60 machine gun.
I'd NEVER keep one of THOSE!!! :barf: :barf: :barf:

OMG - How could people NOT want: Sigs, CZs, AR-10s, Tommy Guns, certain Kel-Tecs, and cool old milsurps?!? Wow, different strokes indeed.
Category 1: What I would not buy, and would sell if given to me:
-ANY Ruger, due to politics (and esp. the Mini-14, due to design)
-ANY S&W, due to politics
-ANY .40 s&W, 9mm, or .45 Glocks, except the subcompact 40 (the M27). 10mms are good though. (reformed Glockaholic)
-Walther PPK, Sig 232, or any oversized-for-its-caliber small defensive pistol, as compared with more modern choices.
-ANY .25 "acp" gun.
-ANY double rifle or over-under shotgun costing more than $900 (i.e. pretty much anything but the EAAs)
-ANY hunting gun with a caliber over .375-.338 -ish. If I can't accomplish my task with this caliber or less with proper shot placement, I shouldn't be trying to shoot it. Alien invasions excepted, and of course everyone needs a .50BMG, but it's not a "hunting" gun.
-ANY French gun, due to politics.
-ANY derringer/mini-revolver (except for that one in .45-70, just for the "holy crap" factor)
Category 2: What I would not buy, but are somewhat interesting and would keep if given to me:
-ANY Revolver, except for Tauruses, .454 Casull/.45 LC, .44 Mag or .41 Mag. (dunno, I just like autos). A Taurus in .22 Hornet I WANT.
-The HK Soccom - anything that big needs a shoulder stock.
-AR15s (kinda neat since you have all those uppers options, but I perceive no need for one)
-Milsurps with 29" +- barrels - cool for collectibility, but cumbersome to shoot and handle. Might get one and cut it down a bit.
-Desert Eagles
Category 3: Things I want
-There ain't enough bandwidth...
more later....appt here..

How could I not want an AR-10? Easy. It's everything I don't like about the AR-15, except bigger and more expensive.
I'll pass, thanks. Give me a FAL any day. Or an M14, or a .308 Galil, or any other .308 Kalashnikov, or a G3, even...

I'm suprised at the number of Glock comments here. I don't like them too, but I see their appeal to the cranially challenged. I had a polymer Kimber and I hated it so I swore off plastic guns forever.
In addition:
1) over unders. had to have the Ruger Red Label 12 ga. Nice gun, points and shoots great, just don't pheasant hunt enough to justify keeping. Sold to buy a reloader and made my money back.
2) small bore shotguns built on large frames
3) engraved shotguns
4) any autos not on the 1911 idea.
5) rifle calibers in a handgun
6) all the "new" cartridges Wasnt' the .475 doing the job? Was the .480 needed? .357 SIG? And a .45 GLOCK cartridge? What's the point?
But my least favorite is the gun a guy buys and hardly ever shoots. I know a guy who has $15,000 worth of guns and shoots less than 50 rounds a year. What a waste.

Maybe a waste in your eyes, but maybe an investment in the eyes of the owner. When my son was 5 or 6 he used to love holding my Python. So I went out and bought a like new Diamondback and put it away. When he turned 15 the Diamondback was his birthday present. He's 20 now, but the Diamondback only gets shot on special occasions, as he will grab something else to shoot any other time. Now that maybe a waste to you, but when he gets in his 40's like me that revolver will be worth a nice piece of change.

Any Chinese made firearm. I know some are very well made, the Norinco 1911 for example, but NO THANK YOU. The idea of owning what many consider to be a symbol of freedom that was manufactured by slave labor and/or by the Red Army just turns my stomach.
Don't get me started on American flags made in China!!!:barf:

1. Any tupperware.
2. Any S&W Auto.
3. Any modern SA Revolver, old OK.
4. Anything engraved except Browning pistols.
5. Ruger (I'm sure they're fine just not my thing.)
6. El Cheapos.
Tam. With the .50BMG you drive to the range, set the target up, drive home, shoot the target. Repeat as desired. Also with a .50 BMG and a CCW you can park that little jewel anywhere you wish. Noone will say anything 'cept nice rifle M'am.
