Anyone else here going to the gunshow in Allentown, PA (http://www.appalachianpromotions.com/news.htm) next weekend (May 5th & 6th)? Anyone ever been to this show before? The website promoting it says "it's baack!" as though it's a really good show that just had to be repeated, so I'm gonna assume it's pretty decent.

I'm about 2.5 hours away, I hope it's worth the drive.
Worth the drive = coming home with a FAL or a converted Saiga-12.

The Allentown show has been pretty good in the past, not on par with Valley Forge and Harrisburg (1000+ tables) but ok.

Good luck finding an FAL though, the few I have seen at the shows recently have been overpriced to say the least, I am not about to pay $700 and up for a FAL on a Century reciever...Imbel yes.

Supposedly they're saying 1000 tables for this show. So hopefully I should be able to find SOMETHING. As for the FALs, what is bad about Century receivers vs. Imbel or someone else? Should they be avoided?

And what do you think the odds are of finding an already converted Saiga-12? Are the Tromix conversions honestly the only ones out there?

They are saying its back because there were none scheduled for this year. The building the show was held in was going to be sold and turned into medical offices. The deel fell through and it is still operating as a convention center. So they had to jump and get some scheduled for this year. Fwi the building was a Home improvment type store back in the day(builders square I think). They just guted it out and turned it into a convetion center. And it usual is a good show. It is sometimes a bit smaller if there is another gun show the same day within a 100 miles. The vendors just have to pick one or the other. It is bigger than the show at agg hall in allentown, if you've been there.

I don't know much on the Saiga's so I can't honestly comment on them.

Imbel recievers were made in Brazil and are of very high quality. They and DSA are about the best in the industry. A good second would be DCI (Coonan).

Century recievers have had some spec. issues, poor machining etc... If you are new to FAL's, I would steer clear of them if you are not sure of the problem areas to look out for. They seem to be hit or miss...but more good ones with no problems than really "bad" ones.

Even a bad Century can be made (no matter what is wrong with it) to work, they can be fixed.

I would buy a Century if the price was right...but I have built many FAL's and know what to look for as far as the common problems with these guns.
