Oh the sweet, sweet guilt... two carbines and a Garand

Yeah, I'm feelin guilty. I leave tomorrow for a trip to Alabama to visit my wonderful family. On my way down, I will stop at the CMP South Store in Aniston and pick up the Garand I ordered two months ago. She's a Greek lady, so I think I'll name her accordingly. Oopa! From what I understand, everyone needs a Garand.

So anyway, those of you who follow CMP know this week marks an important beginning for CMP because they begin selling M1 carbines - just in time because the Garands are pretty much gone. So as of next Thursday, one can go to the store and pick the one he wants. Well, you've figured out where this is going. On my way home to Indiana next weekend, I'll be stopping back by Aniston to adopt a baby sister for my Greek goddess. I've never even fired an M1 carbine, but I'm telling you - just holding one, I fell in love. The size, the weight, the ergonomics... just beautiful.

Okay, that's all acceptable because I had planned it, right? But here's the problem. I'm in a local gunstore yesterday and they actually had on their shelf a new Kel-tec Sub2000 9mm that eats from GLOCK magazines. New in the box for $299.

...Well, you guessed it.

get the M1 carbine(s)...a nice piece of history, especially if you can snag a 'military correct' version with the bayonet mount; Kel-Tecs are good...but the M1 carbines are much better; I got a slight itch for 'mil-surp' and I use the term loosely since I ended up with a commercial Iver Johnson M1 and a chopped, bobbed, and sporterized Enfield Mk I from 1944 (nice clean conversion from a surplus enfield that someone did for a woods beater gun)

or.....

When your $650 new rifle actually cost over $1,000, because your wife decides since you are getting a new toy, it is OK to go spend $400 on shoes (just happened yesterday, though I think it was closer to $300 on her end).

Beware the Greek broads...they look good now but will develop chin hair later!

Well, I suppose I feel a little more guilty now that I have the Garand in hand. I don't want to bad-mouth it too much, but it ain't exactly beautiful. The wood's just a little mismatched. And it's still a little sticky to the touch. I guess I just need to clean it up a little. Plus they keep telling me that when I fire the thing I'll fall in love with her.

Oh, and would you believe I already almost got my thumb bitten by the thing? Ha.

...for the 1st time yesterday, at a CMP rifle clinic near me.

It was awesome, in just about every way possible. :D
