Is there any chance WWB JHP won't feed?

I've been carrying a 9mm M&P compact, and I've been carrying it with hardball, because I haven't had the money or time to proof fire it with hollowpoints--I feel most comfortable carrying it with the same ammo I use to practice. I recently discovered WWB JHP, which appears cheap enough to practice with extensively, and I bought two boxes last night, but I haven't had a chance to fire them yet. The bullet profile looks very conservative. Should I just load them up for tonight?

Never use your carry sidearm with ammo you haven't tested extensively. You may be betting your life on it.

FWIW I ran 100 rounds of WWB through my XD9 with no problems what so ever. I would definately suggest running some rounds through before carrying though, you can never tell how your particular weapon will react to a specific ammo.

How about a hollowpoint in the chamber and ball in the magazine until you get a chance to actually fire enough of the hollowpoints to prove them out? I did that for a while with a GI .45 that would not feed anything but hardball; in the day of Norma and Super Vel JHP.

That's actually a decent idea. Why didn't I think of that?

I have used that round at the range and it ran fine in my XD SC 9mm and 1911 .45. 100 % reliable in the 70 rounds I fired.

If you had a WWII era pistol or a cheap marginal gun or planned on shooting +P+ ammo I'd say make sure you try out the JHP ammo first. I haven't found a modern pistol that will not feed modern factory JHP's reliably. The ammo itself deserves much of the credit as the JHP bullet profile is very close to the FMJ. I do shoot a magazine of any new ammo that I intend to carry through the pistol to verify accuracy and function. If everything went well the rest gets loaded for carry without worry.

The odds of a FTF with the WWB JHP is extremely small. But how lucky are you feeling?
Shoot a couple of boxes before you trust them!

This - as well as the Remington/UMC 100-round boxes also found at Wal-Mart - should be a good load for inexpensively testing your gun for reliability with hollowpoints. The Remington (in my case 9mm) did have a rather bright muzzle flash, noticeable even in a well-lit indoor range, so it would not be my first choice for carry. The important thing is that you do test with hollowpoints. Sometimes a gun that is reliable with FMJ can have problems with the JHPs. A case in point is my personal Glock 19 with the supplied (at the time) 10-round magazines. It functioned perfectly with pointy-nosed FMJ but, due to a problem with the magazine followers, would fail to feed the last round of a JHP. Had I not tested it I would not have found out about this.

I shoot WWB almost exclusively with no problems in 9mm, .40S&W, and .45acp, both hardball and HP.

How about a hollowpoint in the chamber and ball in the magazine...Given that the only failures I've had with WWB (admittedly with the FMJ, not the JHP) were failures to extract, I'd be leery of that.
