You should print these up and post them yourself. I'm sure it would make many a female nerv-e-ous.

Seriously, these laws are about making people feel safe. Well, I say lets make them feel "safe". You know what I mean? Really drive the point home that this anti-self defense stuff just isn't going to cut it.

Indeed. I hated living in the dorms. I had to check my guns in at the campus police station!

Once, I checked my gun in and accidentally left some boxes of ammo in the case. About 10 minutes later there was a knock on my dorm room door and a cop was there to give me my ammo. Apparently they wouldn't keep it in the station. It was an odd feeling, let me tell ya. They could just look me up and track me down. From that point I began to keep my gun in my car, then the GF's place, now beside my bed.

I'm seriously considering printing off a bunch of these in sticker form and slapping them all over campus or posting them on the various boards.

I will miss the days of wearing my NRA t-shirt to class, though.

Do you want to scare people (reaction: ohmigawd! we need more gun control laws), or do you want to make them think?

GrizzlyGraves
April 27, 2007, 10:40 PM
Ideally, I would like to make them think. Do you think this would be too much for them to handle?

I guess I could approach it with a picture of the VT scene and add a caption along the lines of:

"Would you have helped stop this madman if you could?...
...Lobby for CCW on campus."

Look for some of Oleg's newer posters - Slap a few of them up.

If you make people go into vaporlock because they're scared, they don't think, and often will go for MORE restrictions...

Case in point: my old car had a "Criminals Prefer Unarmed Victims" bumper sticker. Got chewed out once because the reader thought I was advocating arming criminals, and she thought there should be more gun control.

There's a bunch of Oleg's stuff right here.

'Druther see the second one with the yellow header say:

-----------------------------
ATTENTION CRIMINALS !

LICENSED CONCEALED CARRY OF WEAPONS IS PERMITTED HERE !

WARNING !

OUR PATRONS (RESIDENTS, STUDENTS, ETC) MAY BE ARMED AND TRAINED IN THE USE OF DEFENSIVE FIREARMS !
------------------------

(Sorry, but with the slow graphics of this hand-cranked machine, it would have taken me a significant portion of forever to actually generate this sign from the sites you gave.)

I don't disagree with the sentiment, but that would be a bad, bad idea. At a high school, you would likely be escorted off campus by the fuzz for being a suspicious character with no particular reason to be there, and at a college, with the way things are right now, you would likely make the news as a "Crazy gun-nut" and at my university you would be given a Persona Non Grata order and have your picture posted on the UNC police website for all to see. Do I agree with your signs? As a college student and a high school teacher, yes I do. Do I think they should ever be posted? A thousand times no. You asked this question:

Ideally, I would like to make them think. Do you think this would be too much for them to handle?

The answer, for right now, is yes.

Outstandinng signs. I think a good approach would be to print some, and stick them right next to any signs prohibiting CCW.

There ARE lines between activism and incitement...I'm not the OP but I have posted stickers very similar on businesses with the no guns signs. In fact I dl'd the art from right on THR and printed it out on avery labels.

If a shooting had happened later at any of the places I stuck one of those labels right under their stupid no guns sign I wouldn't have felt bad at all. The folks who entered were warned.

Well, I don't know who Hoss is, but I think my point would be made quite dramatically. Tragically, yes, but dramatically, too. The people might start to actually think about things.

It's pretty simple. Just about everywhere you disarm people, they get shot at.

Frankly, I don't want to be forced to cower under a table while a murderous fiend pumps rounds into my classmates and teachers with impunity.

I think that my campus might take well to the idea of allowing CCW. We're in eastern WA and far removed from the Seattle mindset. People are much more realistic and down-to-earth over here. For one thing, nobody calls the police when the ROTC practice with their dummy M-16s (*cough* UW *cough*). I even started the Criminal Justice Club trips to a local shooting range. Folks took to it instantly and now everyone looks forward to it. A small sample of the student body, yes, but not an isolated group by any means.

Well, my campus, which is the University of Northern Colorado, has very clearly said "bleh" to the idea of CCW on campus. We are in one of the most conservative parts of the state, and they have said no. The fact is, state law prohibits carrying a gun onto campus, although as I read the law, the school can allow it if they so choose. Nevertheless, there will be no guns being carried on UNC campus anytime in the near future.

As to your other point Grizz, I can again agree with the sentiment, but exploring the "what if" question makes sense. Do you really think that your sticker is going to make people think? In the unlikely event that something does happen at your campus, do you think that non-gunnies will honestly be able to see through their grief and prejudice enough that a sticker is going to change their mind? I guess opinions will vary, but I think the answer is no. In my opinion, people are wired to block out the good in favor of the bad, because the bad always leaves a more lasting impression.

Glad to see other UNC Students active here in Greeley. unfortunately UNC has its own dark history in the school shooting trend. Do you remember the Hostage situation from 94(? looking for article Will ETA when found). IIRC it was part of the reason that the Colorado gun laws are the way the are.

As a matter of fact nomonday, I DO remember when that happened! In fact, I was telling my class about that, only to find out that my host teacher was actually walking through the parking lot at UNC when that happened!

I am sure you have been getting the letters from Kay Norton as of late. I responded to one in which I brought up the possibility of carrying on campus. Still waiting for a response, but I don't think one is forthcoming.

Whats your major? I guess there is a chance we know each other!!!

'Kay - I've slept on it, and here's my take.

There's a time for the "light touch," a time for "tact" and all that....

But when people's lives are at risk, due to unmitigated ignorance of anti-gun types, that IS NOT the time!!!!

Though, here is what *I* would do:

The sign, something like: A "warning" graphic of some type, with the message: DANGER: "Gun-Free" Zone. Therefore, only criminals will be carrying guns past this point/in this area and will encounter minimal resistance. ENTER AT YOUR OWN PERIL!

But BEFORE putting 'em up:

1) FIRST, go to whoever is responsible for the "gun-free" zone decree. Where possible. I guess if it's a school zone mandated by law, amend the sign to say "call your legislators if this bothers you!"

2) WAIT for a response by the 'powers' that be. If negative, THEN put the signs up.
