Would You Be Happy With this Group?

My new Savage 12VSS, .308 at the 300 meter range, 55 degrees, 10 mph crosswind with my reloads. The best group I got was 2.1 inches measured center to center. How does this compare with your experience with a factory gun? Average? The gun should do better? Any opinions are welcome.

Thanks.

I would be happy with that group at 150yds. which is what I'm getting with a savage 22".243 / I need a good solid bench and real shooting bags to rest on. the lawn chair w/pillow is not quite the same :D

I think I'd send the gun to me so I can try and figure out what's wrong with it.

2/3 MOA group and you're asking if it's decent accuracy?

You don't want a POS gun like that. I'll trade you even up for a Finn M39 that'll shoot 2 MOA all day long. :D

A 2.1" group at 300 meters and 10mph winds...I'd say if your not happy with that...sell it to me.

2.1" at 300m is an excellent group for a box stock rifle. Many custom rigs won't do that well. That rifle is a keeper. Cherish it.

Well, if its a hunting gun I think your doing pretty well. I'm not saying its bad for a target gun because I dont know if thats good or bad either.

If Mr. White doesn't want it, I'll take it off your hands . . .

What do you expect? If that is factory ammo I say you should be very happy. Ihave 7 BVSS rifles now and the 5 that I have shot are all 1/2MOA or better. That said, I did pull my 308 barrel and replace it with a 22-250 because it would only shot just under 1 MOA.

Tremendous shooting! I guess it's just me but I can't come close to doing that.

I'm getting sub-MOA groups with my Stevens model 200(.308) but it likes the expensive ammo- 168gr Fedaral gold match. I'm going to start reloading soon, what is your recipe for that load?

No, not trying to brag. Because of my work hours, I shoot alone all of the time. I really don't trade notes with other folks and this is my first .308. Didn't have a solid idea of what I was supposed to expect. I do read this forum enough to know what kind of ammo is going to give you the highest potential for accuracy (read compensate for 61 year old eyes). I use Lapua brass and Federal 210 primers. The bullets were a combination of 135, 150 and 175 Bergers all of which were set .010" into the lands. With the 135s, I used 48.5 Varget, the 150s, 46.5 Varget and the 175s, 44.5 Varget. I shot 5 targets at 2.4", 2.7", 2.2", 2.1" and 2.6".I shot two more with 175 Bergers. One was a 3.6" group. The other was 4 shots into a 2.2" group but I pulled the 5th shot and ruined the group. That was my clue to pack-up and go home.
Sorry.I don't have a digital camera to post pictures.

How many shots in the group... 3/5/10

I would shoot a series of 5 or 10 shot groups to determine real accuracy...

that is a fan , freaking tastic group at that range, with a broken in rifle, and no wind probs. I'd say you've got yourself a keeper there. Must.. protect... muzzle at all times....

They were five-shot groups.

If I couldn't shoot any better than that, I'd just shoot myself.

Of course, being that poor a shooter - I'd probably miss.

Jayhawker those are horrible in that case. Can you send me the rifle? :)

I wish I could average >1 MOA
