good article here is an excerpt.

"Some companies have decided. Minneapolis-based Target issued a statement saying it's a nationwide retailer that has to comply with a variety of laws across the country, and that its policy is to not post signs regarding guns in any state with conceal-and-carry laws.

That makes Andrejs Cers happy. A 45-year-old independent design consultant in Minneapolis, Cers sent Target an e-mail asking the company not to post signs. Cers, who says he doesn't have a gun permit himself, wrote that if Target posts signs, thousands of law-abiding gun owners who value their rights would probably honor the ban and boycott the store."

I guess they don't want to be a "target". :) :barf: ;)

IIRC, many years ago, the Target stores in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area actually sold guns. Anyway, I guess they decided against posting for fear of a nationwide sportsman's boycott.

I understand that things are proceeding smoothly as far as issuance of permits except for Dakota County, where officials have decided that a 15 minute interview is necessary before they accept an application, and they only schedule eight interviews per day. So they're deliberately creating a backlog. (Can they legally DO that under Minnesota law - put additional requirements on?)

Where did you read that about Dakota County? I heard Anoka county was interviewing. I dropped off my forms in Dakota county on the first day and there were no such interviews. They do say on the Dakota Co. website that they will only accept apps between 8 and 4:30 though, which I think would be legal. As far as the other "interviews" they can't interview or ask questions as stated by law. However I guess the interviews are really verifications that the permit applicant is who he says he is, checking your drivers license, making sure the form is all filled out.

I wouldnt think the sheriff in Dakota co. would be a friend to us. He worked in Illinois for awhile, a pretty anti-gun state and on a murder investigation squad in Michigan - so he knows about gun violence - we're just stupid commonfolk.

Cool! I always viewed Target as somewhat of a liberal company (they don't even carry gun magazines! ;) ) so that's nice to hear because I like shopping there (and my bride and I are registered there for our wedding....on June 28th...it's not too late to shop).

Where did you read that about Dakota County? I heard Anoka county was interviewing. Maybe my informant confused the two counties. It's heck having to depend on others for information. (Of course, if I were getting it first-hand, that would mean I'd still be living up there . . . which would be worse than mere "heck!")

My buddy went in to apply in Washington County . . . he said when he went, the place was almost empty, and when he approached the counter, a woman looked up and said "Concealed handgun application?"

He said, "Why, yes, how did you know?"

"I've learned to read 'em" was the reply!

Target deservs a thank you. Here's part of another post of mine:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TARGET NEEDS YOUR THANK YOUS... -- Target doesn't ban permit-holders,
but the opposition wants to see it happen.

It's time to say "Thank you, Target, this law-abiding citizen
will be shopping there!"

You can email your "Thank you" to:

guest.relations@target.com

(or use the "Target" link at http://www.mnccrn.org/)

Send a card to:

Robert J. Ulrich
Target Corp.
PO Box 9350

Remember, too, that Target, Marshall Field's, and Mervyns stores
are all part of Target Corporation (http://www.targetcorp.com/).
