Does Walmart have any deals going on .308 like value packs? The places I go to are never stocked with .308, but will hunt around for a deal if such a thing exists.

Skunk, you really should learn to roll your own.
To address your question...no, I haven't seen it.

Order South African or Portuguese milsurp in sealed battle packs from AIM Surplus, J&GSales, or Sportsman's Guide. Then you don't have to go looking for it, it will come to you. Trust me, the South African and Port. stuff is great. I shoot it out of my Ruger M77 International all the time. You could order on a Monday and probably have it before Friday from J&G. This way, you'll get more rounds for your dollar and won't have to waste time driving all over the place. My local shop carries milsurp, so I just buy from him. But I hear tell you Calis are in a fix for gun shops.

I have Port milsurp but the ranges don't like steel jacketed stuff.
Steve, can't reload yet, too much moving around at my stage in life, maybe when I settle down. You should see my furniture selection...everything folds down and my bed is made up with Rubbermaid tubs....

What are you, a hobo? I know you are taking classes, so you can't get too far away from your school. Maybe you are just spending every night in a different woman's bed? No? Then for goodness sakes, buy a bed and settle down!

South African milsurp is 100% copper jacket. Tested with a magnet at work and we use neodymium-boron magnets. If it doesn't stick to those, there isn't steel in it anywhere.

I'm looking into Georgia Arms canned heat with the match bullets. General consensus is it's pretty goodstuff, shooting 1/2MOA to 1MOA. Not real match but half the price anyway.

Skunk - I build a "reloading bench" from 2x4s and it measures 2'x1' and about 3' tall. It's just big enough to bolt a press and powder throw onto...I could (seriously) fit it into my dorm room at school if I wanted to (and wouldn't get expelled for it).

Skunk, you can have a portable reloading system. I do. In my case, its because I have small kids at home and choose not to leave my press & components laying around.
You can set a press up on desk or a kitchen table in 1 min, using "C" clamps. That's what I do.
I keep press, dies, powder, brass, and other components in a single rubbermaid tub. Its not a problem.
I paid $25 for my used press. You can get used dies at gunshows cheap. $17 for a pound of powder, $10-15 for a box of good bullets, $3 for a box of primers.
I'll bet you can get a complete setup for less than 1 good size order of ammo.
And you won't believe how much fun it will add to your shooting enjoyment.
I put it off for years with "If I had the time to reload, I'd be shooting", or "I'll wait until I can get a dedicated space for my own."
I'm sorry for the time and $$ lost. If I had done this 2 years ago, I could prolly have new guns with with the $$ I had saved.

Reloading is as much fun, as shooting. :D

Skunk a hobo?
That's about the funniest thing I've read all day!
He could go around playing his music and let people throw
money into his banjo case!

My dad (before I was a glint...) set up a small, ?GI? footlocker for all the reloading gear. Drilled holes in one end so he could set it up with the press on top. Don't remember how he steadied it, but it got him through the small apartment years.
The cheapest I've seen milsurp .308 over the counter here is $20/100 for, uh,,, Argentine, I think. Cardboard almost-bulk packs.
Was in Wal-Mart tonight and they had NO screaming hot deals. :(
