Are There Any Women Reloaders Out There?

Just curious. I know of some female shooters but reloading generally seems even more male dominated. My wife for one has ZERO interest in the hobby. That makes things interesting when she see's the credit card statements with various "unnecessary" charges.:uhoh: I'll probably keep her anyway.:D

Lisa Farrell, the 6 time Ladies International Revolver Champion, loads all her own ammunition. Her dad is a friend of mine and I've supplied her with brass. Really nice lady, too, and can shoot like there's no tomorrow.

I do it, but I hate it and am generally uninterested in it. It's purely a money thing.

I know a number of ladies that reload their own shotgun shells.
Some are single, some are single moms, and some are married. Kids of all ages are involved as well.

They get a better quality shell for the money, they get a kick out of patterning a shotgun, tweaking a load recipe and felling clays, and game birds with a shell they made.
Quality time with other single ladies, single moms, couples, and passing forward some great lessons to kids.

It would be nice to find a woman to do my reloading for me. :D

My wife loads but most of the time we load together and says she enjoys it. The best part is she likes doing the stuff that I dont find so fun, like pulling bullets and trimming cases.

My wife doesn't reload but she takes part in the process, she decapped 3000 pieces of brass for me over a week period of time, well actually she took the press away from me and wouldn't give it back until she was out of brass :).

My wife said she almost likes loading better than shooting. She loads at least 25K rounds a year (rifle and handgun).

My wife used to help out with the reloading but now that my boys are old enough she rarely does. She always helps if I ask

A nice young lady on another board got a bunch of 40 brass from me sometime ago, for her reloads.

"Hmmm, a lot of men speaking for women"

Hello Antipasta and welcome!:)
I'd have to guess, but I suppose that's because there are a heck of a lot more men participating on this message board than there are women. Maybe that's because most women are too busy doing their loading. But I'll bet it's because most women are like my wife, who even though she loves guns, shooting and hunting, doesn't care anymore about loading her own ammo than she does about goofing around on the internet. I have to load her ammo and write about it on this forum for her. That's not a problem though - I enjoy both activities.:D

Heh.

Met a couple out in the Eastern Province (of South Africa) shooting silhouettes last week [1]

She was reloading her own before they met.

I of course immediately asked about her sisters, she has three, but they're all married :-(

Prolly a good thing taking my fiancee into account tho :-)))

Koos

[1] Was pissing down and pretty damn cold, so I only shot half the events I entered for. Came away with a medal per event tho, but that's just because in silhouettes we give medals to the guy who didn't get a medal yet...

Thank you, Sharps Shooter. I've been reloading for about 6 months and this looks like the place to be.

By the way, my wife reloads about as often as I knit:D

i do not allow them unbridled access to the internet (thus i am answering for them), and when they do get on the net, it is usually on nickelodeon.com or bratz.com or somesuch...

Sort of in the same direction...
would you feel ok having your wife shoot your reloads?

I just started reloading, to "save" money although realistically to shoot more. But I really like the hobby or craft or whatever aspect of it too, I'm hooked.

My wife is getting more into shooting and after rolling her eyes at my CWP, is getting her own CWP too after thinking about it for almost a year. Now that she actually kind of likes going to the range to improve her skills, I've wondered about the wisdom of her shooting my reloads. My thinking being after talking with other casual reloaders, "only the person reloading should be shooting their reloads, in case you do something wrong then yuo're the only one at risk"

I believe I'm very careful but I know enough to know I don't know all the things that can go wrong yet, being so new to reloading. I've reloaded a couple hundred rounds after getting my equipment a few weeks ago and I feel confident and ok now stepping up and shooting my own reloads. If you were me, would you wait a while, or perhaps simply never, before having your wife shoot your reloads?

More on-topic for this thread, she doesn't think shooting or even reloading is stupid. But, even though she shoots, she has zero interest in how the reloading stuff works or in doing any herself.

xsquid ~

I know a man who used to reload for his wife. He still reloads for himself, but stopped reloading for her after blowing up her brand-new gun a few years back.

She was still willing to shoot his reloads, but he wasn't willing to let her do it anymore.

I'm another reloading lady here...

I grew up shooting with Dad and helping him with things like inspecting shotshell hulls for problems and depriming/resizing. It wasn't until I got to high school that he would trust me to do the whole thing. Thing that scared him was a friend's son who used his reloader at the house. He kaboomed his shotgun (Remington 1100 20 ga), and Dad found out that the son inadverdently reversed the charge bar on the MEC reloader and got a shot bushing load of powder instead.

I got away from shooting once I went off to college. It wasn't until I became concerned for home defense that I got a SD shotgun in April last year. I've practiced with #6 shot. After reading more online about self-defense loads, I decided I wanted to go with buckshot loads, and then I saw how much the buckshot loads were, which brought me here about a month ago. I'm reading "The ABC's of Reloading," have read through "Advantage IV" for shotgunning, and just read the "Buckshot Loading III" book (the latter two books from BPI). I also want to get into .308 reloading from an accuracy/cost standpoint, but that's later, once I've got the hang of shotshell reloading (I never did do the load formulations, though - Dad did that).

On Friday, I picked up the Lee Load-All II press, Safety Scale, the Primer Feed, primers, Win AA hulls. I'm waiting on earning more money to buy the proper wads, buckshot, and the powder, which I can nail down on Friday.

It looks like I have to attempt to assemble the Winchester-recommended load from Hodgdon's Data Center by seeing how #00 will stack in this particular load set and whether I have to change the wad/add a cushion to take up space and add an overshot card to get a good crimp, or even change to a different size buckshot.

At this time, I'm putting use to the time I have by doing three stages:
1. inspect the hulls (once fired) for damage and deformities
2. deprime and resize
3. prime the hulls (I prefer to do this as a third step because of design limitations with the Prime Feeder on this press, and it's safer)

That way, I can focus on powder, wad, and shot stacking. It is enough to do the first three steps in itself.

Anyhow, I'm surprised to hear that there are more than just a handful of women who reload in this world. I feel downright odd, eccentric for doing what I do. The lady who works at 10ring.com in Cypress, Texas, said that I was only the second lady to come in for reloading supplies, and that I knew more than some of the guys working at the store!

Here I am!

I sort of count, I guess. I don't have equipment yet, but I'm loading 9mm. at a friend's house and saving up shotshell hulls until I get a loader. Have loaded some 9mm, and have insane amounts of brass, much of it primed.

My wife dosent reload, but then again, she dosen't bother me while I do!
She understands it's my favorite hobby, and doesnt rag me about it. Or anything else, for that matter!

Another one here, (raising hand)
I reload both rifle and pistol calibers, a nice hobby for those icky winter days when it's too unpleasant outside to go shooting.

Does an eleven year old daughter count? Or does that fall under "Child Labor".
